| | Sun Did Your Mother Tell You CD Sun Discography of CDs
The Sun plays well-built, edgy rock music that isn't afraid to unfurl an irresistible hook or thrash with abandon. DID YOUR MOTHER TELL YOU?, the band's full-length debut on Warner Brothers, weaves different styles into an overall sound that is accessible and compelling. What impresses most about the Sun is their ability to move between different genres, including gutsy garage ("My Girlfriend's Best Friend"), quirky New Wave ("Justice"), and spooky acoustic folk ("Demons"). At times, in fact, the Sun covers multiple territories in one song, as on the title track, which builds from a taut opening with acoustic strumming to a thunderous indie-rock crescendo.
At only seven songs, DID YOUR MOTHER KNOW? is in danger of seeming thin, but the songs are substantial enough to carry the album. "Valentine" builds a fuzzy web of distorted guitars over which vocals soar and a sing-song keyboard melody chimes, creating thick sonic textures. "Sandy" is happy, high-energy power pop that sparkles with a contemporary appeal despite its clear retro feel. These disparate directions work surprisingly well together, and make for a very strong first album from a band that seems to know what rock is really about.

Contained within the dozen tracks is the entirety of the HEAVY TURBULENCE (1972) project and another ...

| | Kent's Cellar Of Soul CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
Did Your Mother Tell You CD music
$17.05 Like several '60s soul compilations on the Kent label, the concept is vague enough to elude the grasp of all but those who are quite immersed in the most dedicated corner of soul record collecting. It has "club and turntable hits from the golden age of American soul music," according to the back cover, though that really applies to British clubs and turntables, not American ones. The liner notes also intimate that soul compilations issued as part of the series "Bell's Cellar of Soul" in the 1960s served as an inspiration. They also claim that the 26 songs on this CD "are now entirely familiar sides," though that claim probably only holds water in some specialized British clubs and collector circles. None of these songs were big hits (with the exceptions of the Intruders' "Cowboys to Girls" and possibly James & Bobby Purify's "Let Love Come Between Us"), and most of them in fact weren't even small hits. Ultimately, it's a reasonably high-quality anthology of obscure (to the general listener) 1960s soul music, though one lacking the strongest of thematic linkages. The tenor tends toward the upbeat and danceable, though also, frankly, the generic and also-ran. ...

On March 24th of 2006 Sewn Shut was released. Only 100 copies were originally pressed up and those went in a matter of 2 months. It was a hit considering the close to no promotion and few shows.
