Kid Songs Collection album
$11.65 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more variety than usual, for in addition to his alto playing (including a memorable unaccompanied solo on "Over the Rainbow"), Pepper switches to clarinet for the lengthy "More for Les" and interprets the ballad "These Foolish Things" on tenor. The nine-CD set is essential for Art Pepper fanatics, but those just wanting a taste of the great altoist's talents will be satisfied with this release. ~ Scott Yanow

| Rosie O'Donnell Rosie Christmas CD (1999)
Kid Songs Collection CD music
$7.29 All profits from A ROSIE CHRISTMAS are donated to The For All Kids Foundation.
Actually, this collection of holiday duets is more like "A Very Middlebrow Christmas," but since talk show diva O'Donnell can actually sing (in an endearingly New Yawkish way), and since the the proceeds all go to her For All Kids charity foundation, why be churlish? Actually, this high-gloss album has genuine moments of wit and more soul than you'd expect. The influence of ultimate Christmas album auteur Phil Spector hovers around several songs, particularly the contributions by Celine Dion and Trisha Yearwood. Cher--who actually sang backup on the original Spector Christmas LP, remakes that album's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" as a percolating ...

Kid Songs Collection CD music
$9.89 This U.S. collection of early Wiggles material offers up 22 sunny songs, the majority of which are under two minutes in length. Not a concept disc like most of the group's releases, Let's Wiggle nevertheless reflects many of the ideas that the children's music superstars from Australia would later expand on. Hence, you'll find bright original numbers for the tots to dance to, some traditional songs, and a dash of ethnic variety. Most of the numbers are cheery but there are also some more laid-back cuts, such as the peaceful "The Dreaming Song" (a reference to the legendary "dream time" of the Australian Aborigine people), complete with didgeridoo. The guys "sugar up" rock & roll, country, folk, and other musical ...
