Sum 41's super-heavy 2002 album, DOES THIS LOOK INFECTED?, was an exercise in speedy hardcore matched with thundering metal bombast, suggesting that the group might soon morph into a full-fledged thrash band. While CHUCK does refine that style even further than its predecessor, the 2004 album also signals a growing musical curiosity. "Intro," the disc's aptly titled opening song, features tersely picked guitar lines that recall some of the darker moments of Pink Floyd's THE WALL, while "Slipping Away" and "Pieces" are pure melodic power pop. "The Bitter End," on the other hand, sounds like a conscious tribute to or rewrite of Metallica's "Battery" (the first track on the 1986 thrash masterpiece MASTER OF PUPPETS).
Throughout CHUCK, the group's energetic performances and finely honed chops pull together these disparate styles to create a bracing re-examination of what it means to be a pop-punk band. (Note: The album title is a thank-you to Chuck Pelletier, the UN representative who helped Sum 41 make a safe exit from the Republic of Congo when violence broke out while the group was there taking part in a documentary.)

I am a huge fan of sum 41 but "Chuck" is the best album they ever realised!! It's awesome!! Best track:11)PIECES!! First time I heard it I started crying!! Keep on rocking guys!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

WICKED!
This album is diffinitly NOT Awful, It's one awesome rock album if you ever heard one. They still kept their darker side from "Does This Look Infected?", but have gotten more, style, I guess. Well anyway, My Favorite songs, are; No Reason, We're All to Blame, Angels With Dirty Faces, Open Your Eyes, There's No Solution, and 88. Wicked! Rock On Sum 41!

this sure is sum 41.. im not really a fan.. but this CD is awesome especially track 6, the riffage is so amazing, and the solos are on par with metallica. punk attitude, metal riffage and catchy hooklines.. what more do u need. :D very happeh!!

This young pop-punk quartet might seem to be following in the steps of such bands as Blink 182, but they bring something of their own to the table on ALL KILLER NO FILLER. Though much of this album is occupied by bratty, post-Green Day melodic punk with the occasional, reverential nod to old-school punk rock ("Nothing on My Back"), Sum 41 seems self-aware enough to effectively spoof itself. Rock opera and punk are usually two mutually exclusive musical styles. Then again, Green Day has never followed any rock rulebook, so it's not entirely surprising that the trio crafted a punk-rock opera that takes the Bush administration and its policies to task.
