Long before the classic 1970s Fleetwood Mac lineup, which included Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham, the group was fronted by guitarists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. In the band's early days, Fleetwood Mac also had nothing to do with pop music. Instead, they were a straight-up blues-rock band.
MR. WONDERFUL is Fleetwood Mac's second release, and features tunes by Green and Spencer that draw heavily from British blues man John Mayall and, not surprisingly, from the American Delta blues tradition, heavy on slide guitar, harmonica, and lazy shuffle rhythms. However, the distorted guitar sounds and powerful drumming suggest a rock influence too. Spencer's "I've Lost My Baby" is one of the strongest tracks on this disc. His slide-guitar work is raw and authentic, and the logey tempo gives this tune a real back woods feel. Oppositely, Green's energetic "Stop Messin' Round" shows Fleetwood Mac's alter ego. Spiced up with groovy saxophone riffs and rocking piano accompaniment, this song captures a more modern, cosmopolitan approach to the blues.
Fleetwood Mac: Jeremy Spencer (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, piano); Peter Green (vocals, guitar); Christine McVie (vocals, keyboards); John McVie (bass guitar); Mick Fleetwood (drums).
Additional personnel: Duster Bennett (harmonica); Dave Howard, Johnny Almond, Roland Vaughan (saxophone); Steve Gregory (alto saxophone); Christine Perfect (piano).

Fleetwood Mac Mr. Wonderful Songs Mr. Wonderful Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Beware, No flakey pop tunes included!!! If you are a devotee of the Buckingham/ Nicks brand of carfully crafted dreamscape fluff, you maybe quite disenchanted. Peter Green's Mac is a stripped down Blues venture. 'Mr. Wonderful' has more in common with 'Robert Johnson, King of the Delta Blues' then 'Rumors'(as stark a contrast as Jefferson Airplane vs. Starship!). 'Mr. Wonderful' is a must have for those who appriciate bare bones, gritty Blues based Rock. Submitted by allmodcon (LI, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Original Fleetwood Mac at the top of their game. I agree with allmodcon's review. I, for one, was never fond of the later top forty, poppy sounding Fleetwood Mac. Obviously, a lot of people were. But, as william's review shows, people who liked the later version of Fleetwood Mac's sound are, for the most part, not afficianados of blues-rock. For those who are lovers of blues-rock, Fleetwood Mac recordings from this era are excellent examples of the genre. Oh, and by the way, Peter Green is not a rock and roll dropout. He's a songwriter and extraordinairy guitarist who suffered from some very bad metal health issues. Thankfully, and against some tall odds, he is once again recording and performing the music he loves so much. I saw him perform recently in Las Vegas and thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Not So Fast Leave it to some blues purist to cry and moan while comparing two completely different bands. Peter Green is a rock and roll dropout while Ms. Stevie Sicks has been enchanting audiences for over 3 decades, while writing some of the most enduring hits of all time. Long live the Mystic Lady! | | Fleetwood Mac Bare Trees CD (1972)
Mr. Wonderful CD music
$9.65 The real star of BARE TREES is guitarist/vocalist Danny Kirwan, who contributes the gorgeous guitar instrumental "Sunny Side of Heaven" and "Bare Trees," a funky rocker that was a massive FM radio staple throughout the seventies. It was new guitarist Bob Welch, however, who wrote and sang the modest hit "Sentimental Lady," a haunting, romantic ballad that remains one of Fleetwood Mac's finest moments. Christime McVie's "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" hints at Fleetwood Mac's future direction. BARE TREES is a rewarding, well-crafted ...
| | Fleetwood Mac Then Play On CD (1969)
Mr. Wonderful music CDs
$9.65 There were 2 different versions of this LP, each with slightly different tracks. The CD contains all tracks from both versions.
Led by singer-guitarist Peter Green, the first version of Fleetwood Mac was one of England's premier bands and possibly the greatest white blues band ever to emerge from the '60s blues revival. 1969's THEN PLAY ON is their best album and Green's pinnacle achievement. Heavily influenced by Otis Rush, Green had an unusually ...
| | Fleetwood Mac Kiln House CD (1970)
Mr. Wonderful songs
$10.89 KILN HOUSE was released at a critical juncture for Fleetwood Mac; leader Peter Green had left the band, and guitarist/vocalists Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan were left to pick up the slack. Fortunately, they took the ball and ran with it, taking ...
| | Fleetwood Mac Pious Bird Of Good Omen CD (1969) Remastered
Mr. Wonderful album
$10.15 With songs taken from Fleetwood Mac and Mr. Wonderful, Pious Bird of Good Omen serves as a worthy 12-track compilation of the band's early Peter Green days. Climbing to number 18 in the U.K., the album managed to catapult Fleetwood Mac's version of Little Willie John's "Need Your Love So Bad" into the English charts for the third time, resting at number 42. The album itself was released by Blue Horizon after the group's contract with them had expired, making it one of the best routes in which to explore their mingling of Chicago and British blues. "Albatross," "Black Magic Woman," and "I Believe My Time Ain't Long" are timeless Fleetwood Mac standards, representing some of the band's best pre-Rumours work. Anyone who isn't familiar with Fleetwood Mac's origins should use Pious Bird of Good Omen as a starting point in investigating the first wave of the band, ...
| | Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac CD (1968) Remastered
Mr. Wonderful CD music
$9.95 With this album, years of personnel changes ended for Fleetwood Mac with the departure of guitarist Bob Welch. The remaining core of the group (Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie) invited guitarist/vocalist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks to join, and thus began the most commercially successful period for Fleetwood Mac. With 3 strong songwriters in Nicks, Buckingham and Christine McVie, FLEETWOOD MAC was their first number-1 album.
PETER GREEN'S FLEETWOOD MAC, the band's full-length debut, is miles removed from commercially tailored soft rock of Fleetwood Mac's 1970s incarnation. The '60s version of the band, led by guitarist/singer Peter Green, was edgy, psychedelic, and rooted deeply in the blues. Green's love of revved-up 12-bar jams, raw boogie grooves, and shredding electric leads come together beautifully on this album, with the help of slide guitarist/singer/pianist Jeremy Spencer, drummer Mick Fleetwood, and bassist John McVie.
With the exception of Spencer, the members had played together in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and took the slashing, mercurial sound and lock-step interplay from that outfit and--arguably--improved on it. Though the album is ...
