Re-Invention album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of ...

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Re-Invention music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Re-Invention songs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Re-Invention album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit meeting between Jimmy Scott (another Reed supporter) and Aaron Neville. The stately, graceful, largely piano-driven songs ...

| | Jimmy Scott Savoy Years And More CDs (1999)
Re-Invention album
$29.49 Recorded between 1952 and 1975. Includes liner notes by Billy Vera.
All tracks have been digitally remastered using Denon's 20-Bit Mastersonic process.
The three-CD box set includes 66 songs, arranged in chronological order, opening with six tracks cut in 1952 and concluding with nine tunes recorded in Chicago in 1972. Charles Mingus and sax player Budd Johnson can be heard on Disc One, tracks 10-13, which include Scott's inspired version of "When Did You Leave Heaven." When it comes to interpreting a ballad, Scott takes hold of a lyric and fills it with light and space. Even when performing obscure material, he always seems to find his way to the center of the song. As a stylist, he's positively elegant, but he complements this with a certain edgy quality that comes from his singular interpretive gift. He's not a predictable singer; he'll surprise the listener with the choices he makes in terms of inflection and timing. Some of the best material featured on this box set includes "Someone to Watch Over Me," ...
| | Real McKenzies Clash Of The Tartans CD (2000)
Re-Invention CD music
$14.79 Going back 23 years, Vancouver underground bands have always had a funnier sense of humor, and a penchant for making fun of themselves (while making really hot music) than any other scene. It's good to see the tradition, which goes back to the screw-off side-bands like Rude Norton and Sgt. Nick Penis Band, is extended via this amusing sextet (D.O.A.'s Joey Keithley's latest find for his Sudden ...
