K-Paz de la Sierra's PENSANDO EN TI combines traditional Mexican dance tunes with modern production and innovative composition. All 12 songs on this disc are driven by accordion and voice, with thunderous drumming popping in and out of the fabric of the music, adding an energetic effect.
Each tune on PENSANDO EN TI has great vitality and a celebratory feel. Some might even confuse this music with another ethnic dance--the polka. In truth, most of these tunes contain a distinctive cut-time "oompah" feel to them. However, the songs are wholly Mexican, even though K-Paz avoids the typical mariachi sound. "La Movidita" is one of the group's best tunes. Very upbeat and bouncy, the song is marked by soaring trumpet lines and a circus-like calliope melody. On "La Daga," K-Paz switches to waltz time, and the accordion leads the way, as harmonized voices gently glide overtop.
