With the revival of No Limit Records, it was inevitable that a TRU album would follow and, indeed, 2005's THE TRUTH appeared after six years of silence. While the group hadn't released a record in that time, its individual members haven't been quiet, as its ranks are the all-stars of the New Orleans label. Originally, TRU consisted of No Limit mastermind Master P and his two brothers C-Murder and Silkk the Shocker. For THE TRUTH, however, Halleluyah technically stands in for the incarcerated C-Murder (who does appear on one track), while the album proves to be a showcase for the best of the No Limit roster.
TRU opens strong on THE TRUTH with a ragtime-era piano line lending an eccentric air to "Where U From," the standard--but still powerful--shout-out to the group's home turf. The album swiftly slows the pace for the delicate "Photo Book," as Master P sweetly reflects on time spent with his brother Silkk and his son, Lil' Romeo. Newcomer Halleluyah, with his smooth, confident Nas-like delivery, is given plenty of chance to shine, particularly on the otherworldly "Welcome to New Orleans." Through it all, tough mixes with tender, while basketball references and unabashed beats abound, making THE TRUTH a quintessential No Limit release.

Master p keeping it gangsta When I first got this i was thinking it was gonna be just another master p attempt and resurrecting TRU,and plus without c-murder i was thinking this was just gonna really suck, but let me just say this has to be one of the best TRU releases, now im not saying its better than the previous ones but for this day and age in rap music this is really a hit, straight up the production has to be some of the best ive heard out of the no limit camp, master p,silk, and even skull dugger definetly got no limit on their style.props to new no limit for pushing this ,go get this if your sick of hearing phony crunk/dirty south rap. $14.29 C-Murder opens the record with an "Intro" comprised of news clips, where he emphatically states he didn't commit the crime, before setting the scene with a vintage No Limit flow on "My Life." The rapper occasionally drifts into a glorification of violence, particularly on opening single, "Yall Heard of Me," but more often the stories are adorned with sad reflection, a sorrow that bleeds out through the toughness. On "Won't Let Me Out," he takes a hefty portion of Akon's 2004 hit about incarceration, "Locked Out," and builds it (with Akon's production help) into an even more poignant track, while on "Mama How You Figure," C-Murder wonders whether he ever had a chance. With hopes for his freedom slipping away, C-Murder drops some of the most powerful rhymes of his career.
C-Murder continues his work from behind bars. This new project features more raw & uncut heat from the rapper. The package includes a limited edition DVD filled with over an ...

Truth songs
$14.29 B.G. has a knack for merging an absolutely hardcore view on life with a sinisterly melodic background, laying it all out with a raw, languid swamp drawl. B.G. rapped through a Southern haze long before it was the style, and the murkily alluring "Fool Wit It" and the eerie "Where Da At" (with a hypnotic heartbeat breakdown) remind us of how the products of his "pinball mind" work. When he gets energized, as he does talking about his home on "Chopper City," the effect is powerful. Overall, THE HEART ...

| | Terri Hendrix Ring CD (2002)
Truth music CDs
$15.95 While the dusty Texas landscape hardly seems like fertile soil, it nonetheless produces more singer/songwriters per acre than any state besides Massachusetts. The difficulty is to stand out in the crowd. Terri Hendrix makes her latest effort to stand out on The Ring, a 40-minute foray into love, relationships, and intergalactic space travel. A bouncy acoustic arrangement gets things off to a good start on "Goodbye Charlie Brown," a song that expresses hope in the face of the millennium and all the fears that came with it. This tune, along with "Spinning Off" and "Truth Is Strange," features Hendrix's attractive and confident vocals against a rich musical backdrop. While these songs work well, the material also calls to mind a number of other singer/songwriters. On a track like "From Another Planet," however, with a barrage of words and a jazzy structure, and "Nightwolves," with its half-sung, half-spoken lyric, she offers something completely different. In fact, on "From Another Planet" Hendrix comes into her own, presenting an exciting, in-your-face vocal with a fun lyric. Even on the somewhat-predictable country romp "I Found the Lions," Hendrix uses a word rap in the middle of song to transform the piece into something original. Even when she doesn't ...
