(1 Customer Review)
Last Stop Suburbia is more typical Drive-Thru Records pop-punk from a band whose bio admits, "Growing up, punk rock was Screeching Weasel, Green Day and the Queers, and that's all they wrote: fast pop-punk with catchy-as-hell melodies. That's what we try to maintain." For what it's worth, Allister is capable of following through on its statement, as this is an album filled with upbeat, poppy songs with nice melodies and songs about girls and rock & roll. It's competent and well played, but hardly original. This is perfect bubblegum pop-punk for a new generation; the older kids will no doubt be sticking to their Jawbreaker, Riverdales, and Operation Ivy albums. ~ Kurt Morris

Last Stop Suburbia
$12.59 With an average age of 21, the Starting Line on its debut SAY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT is more than qualified to reflect the preoccupations of its audience. It's also entitled to marvel at its phenomenal success, which it does to good effect on "Given the Chance" ("There's not a day that I can't say all this time I'm living out my dream"). The band hews to the pop-punk party line faithfully throughout--it's pretty obvious that Green Day is as much the touchstone for present-day rockers as Chuck Berry was for previous generations--and while the songs' subject matter almost exclusively centers around girl problems, The Starting Line's breakneck energy and musicianship combined ...
| | Sugarcult Palm Trees And Power Lines CD (2004)
Last Stop Suburbia
$11.55 Sugarcult's debut album was an energetic slice of alternative-rock-flavored power-pop that also paid passing tribute to the band's Southern California punk-tinged brethren. With PALM TREES AND POWER LINES, the group introduces a more layered, varied sound, while still retaining enough hooks to fill a tackle box. While the sweetly melancholy "Back to California" uses a touch of trip-hop, "Destination Anywhere" recalls the driving drama of U2's "Bullet the Blue Sky." The album's final track, "Sign Off," is a disarmingly honest acoustic guitar-based look at suicide that hearkens back to the ...
