For most artists recording a Christmas record is a convenient stop-gap in between releasing new material. In Peter Cetera's case this doesn't ring true as it has been a while since we last heard from one of soft rock's most distinctive crooners. You Just Gotta Love Christmas brings to the table everything you'd expect from a Peter Cetera record: lush, pleasant arrangements with crisp, warm, polished production and able musicanship from a crew of veteran session players. It's a mix of holiday favorites mixed in with a few originals and some guest appearances from Alison Krauss and Peter's daughter Claire; who is more than up to the task of singing with her father on two of the album's 12 tracks. Cetera and Chicago fans will no doubt enjoy having this on in the background during the holidays. ~ Rob Theakston You Just Gotta Love Christmas Music You Just Gotta Love Christmas Music You Just Gotta Love Christmas Music Review Purchase You Just Gotta Love Christmas CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Chicago What's It Gonna Be Santa? | | Peter Cetera Live In Salt Lake City: The Essential Collection CD (2004)
You Just Gotta Love Christmas CD music
$7.89 On paper, the meeting between Chicago frontman Peter Cetera and a symphony orchestra would raise eyebrows. In reality, it scored big time. On this 2004 live set, Cetera nails some of his and Chicago's greatest hits, including "If You Leave Me Now," "You're The Inspiration," "Hard To Say I'm Sorry," "25 Or 6 To 4," and 17 more.
To say this is "The Essential Collection" -- the definitive and most thorough overview of Cetera's brilliant career as a soft rock craftsman of the highest order -- is a highly misleading suggestion, especially as this disc was recorded live in Salt Lake City. True, many of the anthems he created are here in full force, including "Glory of Love," "Restless Heart," and ...

| | Very Best Of The Newbeats CD (2003) Bonus Track
You Just Gotta Love Christmas CD music
$11.79 Recorded between 1963 & 1969. Includes liner notes by Harry Young.
The Newbeats were eventually remembered almost solely for their 1964 number two hit, "Bread and Butter," and it comes as a bit of a shock that they had quite a few other chart singles, though only two of those (the Top 20 entries "Everything's Alright" and "Run, Baby Run (Back into My Arms)") were that popular. Nine chart singles are on this 18-track compilation, in fact, one of them from as late as late 1969. Commercial success aside, it's not much of a joyride, as Larry Henley's ear-scraping falsetto -- such a novelty when first heard on "Bread and Butter" -- grates when heard in such a concentrated dose. Too, none of the other tracks had as naggingly memorable hook lines as "Bread and Butter," though the original version of "Thou Shalt Not Steal" (quickly covered for a big hit by Dick & Dee Dee) comes close. At other points, the Four Seasons-meets-Motown influence is similarly dominant, though cornier pre-Beatles girl group-teen idol influences come into play sometimes as well. Give them some points ...
| | Shades Of Al Green CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
You Just Gotta Love Christmas music CDs
$15.45 For SHADES OF AL GREEN, Hi Records collects a variety of tracks by the hall of fame crooner which have been used for samples in the 1990s and 2000s. Tracks by Ann Peebles, O.V. Wright, and Jean Plum appear for good measure.
One of the most intriguing things about hip-hop is how it is really a kind of folk music, reaching back into the beats and songs of the past and bringing key samples forward into the present, transforming them through mixing and digital technology into whole new compositions that retain the DNA of the original source materials in what is, if you think about it, a 21st century version of the folk process. It is a particularly postmodern way of making sure that everything old is new again, and it isn't much different from what Woody Guthrie (and later, Bob Dylan) did when he took old folk melodies and retooled the lyrics into classics like "Pastures of Plenty." Willie Mitchell's Hi Records sound, with its languid but solid backbeat, muted strings, well-placed horn blasts, and churchy organ washes, has been a prime source for hip-hop sampling by artists as diverse as Mary J. Blige, the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, and Ashanti, and none of the Hi Records stable of performers has been more sampled than Al Green. With his trademark melismatic falsetto (truly one of the Seven Wonders of the World), easy sexuality, and offhand smoothness, Green is the very definition of classic Memphis soul and gospel, and his peak work for Hi Records in 1972 and 1973 has been combed through many times over by hip-hop archivists. Shades of Al Green collects ten of these classic and ...
