| | Black Sabbath Eternal Idol CD Black Sabbath Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Considering that Tony Iommi is the sole remaining member from the classic Sabbath lineup, it's not surprising that the centerfold of the CD booklet finds him sitting alone in his black Porsche. Changing personnel more times than Spinal Tap changed drummers, Iommi was determined to keep the Sabbath name alive in the metal-friendly late '80s. 1987's ETERNAL IDOL is a powerful, if uneven, record.
Tony Martin's strong vocals, along with Iommi's melodic riffing, carry IDOL throughout. "The Shining" and "Glory Ride" are fine headbanging numbers, while "Scarlett Pimpernel" is a somber acoustic instrumental. The title track is an epic tune, and the grand finale to an impressive album. For IDOL, Iommi wrote all the songs and IS Black Sabbath, though the additional musicians, all metal veterans, contribute to the music. IDOL is a thumbs-up winner.

Black Sabbath Eternal Idol Songs Eternal Idol Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Very good album from a great band. Black Sabbath is not just Ozzy or Dio. This is a very good album with the mighty Tony Iommi and Tony Martin doing a great job on vocals. Iommi is the very essence of this legendary band. Great stuff This is my first black sabbath album and it rocks. Everyone praises the ozzy years and they should, but there's more to the group beyond the ozzman. The Shining, Ancient Warrior, and Glory Ride are my favorite tracks. Submitted by Brettem02 (St. Louis, MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Nit Black Sabbath This is not really Black Sabbath, but Tony Iommi and a different number of players doing some great music.
With strong cuts such as the Shining,Ancient Warrior, Glory Ride, Nightmare,(I would like to hear Heaven and Hell play this one and hear Mr. Ronnie Dio's vocal spin on this.)Lost Forever and of course the title track.
I would also like to hear the Ray Gillen version officially released, should make for a great liten.
This was an underrated release and the last to be released by WB. This remastered version on Sanctuary makes for a great listen. Submitted by Darryl Baysinger (Fulton, MO & Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Eternal Idol album
$7.29 As the drums kick into the fierce opener "Tarot Woman," it's obvious that RISING delivers directly to your door. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except vocalist Ronnie Dio with Jimmy Bain (bass), Tony Carey (keyboards), and Cozy Powell (drums). Dio shows what he's got with a stellar performance on "Do You Close Your Eyes." "Stargazer" is the band's "Kashmir," an epic ...
| | Rainbow Long Live Rock 'N' Roll CD (1978) Remastered
Eternal Idol CD music
$6.49 Released in 1978, LONG LIVE was the final Ronnie James Dio-fronted release by Rainbow. Dio would go on to front Black Sabbath, while guitarist Richie Blackmore would reunite with Deep Purple. The album caps off a string of tremendous releases from one of the strongest branches on the heavy-metal family tree.
The title track is a fan favorite and one of the strongest tunes from this era--a heavy rock tune written for arenas. "Lady of the Lake" is a solid number featuring haunting background vocals. "L.A. Connection" features the piano tinglings of keyboardist David Stone. "Gates of Babylon" is a mammoth track featuring the Bavarian ...
| | Rainbow Down To Earth CD (1979) Remastered
Eternal Idol music CDs
$6.49 With the departure of Ronnie James Dio from Rainbow in 1978, guitarist Richie Blackmore could have easily sought a Dio clone and continued the group's recognizable sound. He instead brought Graham Bonnet aboard, a dramatic belter with a completely different style. Blackmore would also recruit former Deep Purple mate Roger Glover on bass and the talented Don Airey on keyboards. The band's sound went from sword-and-sorcery epics to more straight-ahead rock.
"All Night Long" is one of the more popular tunes, a track on which Bonnet's makes his powerful presence immediately felt. Another equally accessible and handclap-filled effort is "Since You've Been Gone." Both songs received FM airplay and charted the commercial course that later albums would take. Don Airey's keyboards provide a haunting intro to "Eyes of the World." "No Time to Lose" is a '50s R&B ...
| | Fates Warning Spectre Within CD (1985) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Eternal Idol songs
$9.79 Although Fates Warning was beginning to create their own sound as a metal band, they were still not a progressive band at this point. The bombastic pounding, dueling guitars, and falsetto singing defined this genre perfectly. Metal fans may enjoy this more than Night on Brocken, especially "Pirates of the Underground" and "The Apparition," but there is very little, if anything, for the progressive fan. ~ Robert Taylor

| | Black Sabbath Born Again CD (1983) Import
Eternal Idol album
$12.79 U.K. remastered import contains original artwork plus additional notes by Hugh Gilmour.
BORN AGAIN is probably the most underrated album in the Sabbath catalog. Featuring the classic lineup with vocalist Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) standing in for Ozzy, BORN is a balls-to-the-wall metal album made in an era when Dexy's Midnight Runners and Debarge dominated the charts.
"Trashed" races by with Gillan's hair-raising shrieks. It's said the man sang the album naked in the studio for maximum power and grittiness, and he seems to have achieved it. Sounding nothing like Ozzy Osbourne or Ronnie James Dio, Gillan nonetheless fits the Sabbath sound to a T. "Zero The Hero" features a wicked bass line from Geezer Butler, while "Digital Bitch" contains classic metal soloing from Tony Iommi. The title track is a power ballad that fit that label before bands like Firehouse and Warrant distorted it. If you're ...
| | Black Sabbath Seventh Star CD (1986) (Import) United Kingdom
Eternal Idol CD music
$11.79 1996 reissue features songs remastered from original master tapes. Also features restored artwork.
An often misunderstood and underrated album, 1986's Seventh Star was never intended to be a Black Sabbath release, as the band had effectively broken up following its disastrous 1984 tour in support of career low point Born Again. Instead, Seventh Star was conceived as guitarist Tony Iommi's first solo project, and it was only record company pressure that forced him to resurrect his longtime band's moniker at the last minute. With this in mind, one can better appreciate both the record's more blues-based, often un-Sabbath-like songwriting and the contributions made by journeyman singer ...
