Eyes Of Soul album
$17.59 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful songs wipe away the sins of their previous album, 2005's ROSENROT. The group's loyal fans have remained with them through the '00s and have braved all the difficult but ultimately rewarding efforts that came with it. To them, LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA is the ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Eyes Of Soul CD music
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious pieces such as "Stand," ...
| | Judas Priest Concert Classics CD (2009) Reissue
Eyes Of Soul music CDs
$11.98 There was a time when British Steel was the hottest, hardest, and most awesome substance on the planet. On Judas Priest "Concert Classics", here it is, in its most appropriate circumstances: live, on stage. Judas Priest re-invented heavy metal. The first band to use the twin-guitar ...
| | Pantera Cowboys From Hell CD (1990)
Eyes Of Soul songs
$5.75 In the tradition of bands such as Metallica and Judas Priest, Pantera put themselves on the map with supercharged blues-based metal riffs and screaming/singing vocals. Adding groove to their artistic aggression made COWBOYS FROM HELL a landmark for the band.
With the relentless "Primal Concrete Sledge," Pantera take a chance and incorporate industrial elements into their style, a risky move for a metal band in 1990. "Psycho Holiday" showcases machine-gun syncopation while "Heresy" matches thrash riffs with double bass drumming dexterity. The haunting and dramatic "Cemetery Gates" features soulful vocals and was responsible for thrusting Pantera in the metal mainstream. The outro to "Domination" makes use ...
| | Avenged Sevenfold City Of Evil CD (2005)
Eyes Of Soul album
$9.49 Even though Avenged Sevenfold's first two albums clearly got them lumped into the emo camp, the California quintet always hinted at the heavy metal influence of bands like Iron Maiden. With their major-label debut CITY OF EVIL, not only have they fleshed out these tendencies via the intricate riffing of dual guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, but they've begun to dabble with more intricate, prog-like song structures. And with singer M. Shadows recovering from vocal chord surgery, he employs a considerably more melodic approach.
The first half of CITY cleaves to what longtime fans have come to expect: dive-bombing call-and-response riffing and furious double-bass-drum attacks, peppering cuts like the soaring "Burn It Down" and the equally ...

| | Hot Club Of Cowtown Tall Tales CD (1999)
Eyes Of Soul music CDs
$10.69 The Hot Club of Cowtown's second album is as winning as their debut, released just a year prior. Furthermore, they're exhibiting smart and meaningful growth. Their first original compositions are in amongst the fifteen tracks this time out. There's a fine track written by fiddler and vocalist Elana Fremerman, and a couple more by guitarist/singer Whit Smith. The rest of the material deftly mixes the trio's love of American songcraft with their passion for western swing and the 1930s and '40s hot jazz ...
| | Old Man's Child In Defiance Of Existence CD (2003)
Eyes Of Soul songs
$10.65 Despite traveling even farther away from black metal's roots, Old Man's Child is still one of the consummate death metal acts, mainly because In Defiance of Existence remains as uncompromisingly vicious as it is confidently experimental. Ambient keyboard swells rule the landscape, changing tempos and volume as often as necessary, but not too often to usurp the catchiness of the fast riffing and drum fills, making this disc the best of all worlds without sacrificing anything out of supposed contradictions. In a genre that ...

| | Doom Capital CD (2004)
Eyes Of Soul CD music
$7.85 If a local music scene is truly hot, it can have an impact internationally. Detroit soul in the '60s, London punk in the late '70s, Prince's Minneapolis school of funk-rock in the '80s, Seattle grunge in the early '90s -- all of those local scenes ended up becoming influential in more than one country. But some local scenes remain a local secret, and that has pretty much been the case with the doom metal/stoner rock scene of Washington, D.C., and its Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Some well-known doom and stoner bands have come out of that area -- Spirit Caravan, for example -- but even so, the scene hasn't received a great deal of national or international acclaim. Assembled by Crucial Blast Records in 2004, Doom Capital: The Maryland/DC Heavy Rock Underground sheds some light on the scene and does so with interesting, if slightly uneven, results. Exactly when D.C.'s doom/stoner scene got started is open to debate; this compilation's informative liner notes assert that it began in the ...
