For the soundtrack to the 2004 Hollywood movie SHALL WE DANCE? (a remake of a beloved Japanese film of the same name), music producer Randy Spendlove assembled an eclectic set of songs, all focusing on the romantic and/or dance elements of the picture. The buoyant, Latin-tinged "Sway," performed by Pussycat Dolls, leads the track list, followed by GoTan Project's electronica-tango fusion "Santa Maria." British jazz-pop wunderkind Jamie Cullum offers up "I Could Have Danced All Night," and Mya adds a bit of hip-hop-heavy R&B with a bass-heavy take on David Bowie's "Let's Dance." However, the collection's most surprising and unusual track proves to be Peter Gabriel's rendition of the Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love." This spare song highlights Gabriel's plaintive vocals, which rest on a lush bed of strings, and sums up the romantic sweep of SHALL WE DANCE? Shall We Dance? | Shall We Dance? Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Original Soundtrack for Japanese Film 'Shall We Dansu?' Don't be misled by the coverart that doesn't seem to refer to the movie; this is the soundtrack for the 1996 Japanese movie, 'Shall We Dance?'!! Apparently this Japanese import by Tokuma Japan Communications is the only available soundtrack out there.
All the musical and dance scores are in their full-length versions, as well as the title track sung in English, and the club scene song 'Koi No Ten Dansu' sung in Japanese. Personally, 'Goldo Rumba' makes the CD for me; remember 'Donny' Aoki and Toyoko putting on the moves at the start of the competition?!
The 8-page, double-sided insert is predominately in Japanese, with only cast names and title song lyrics in English. Japanese song lyrics are included, character scene photos, as well as info. on the music selections and the composers. An added bonus is a 12-step instructions for the waltz (in Japanese).
If you loved the music, then you'll love the CD! Submitted by dsimovic (Ancaster, ON, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

"Moon River" might be Henry Mancini's biggest hit, but it was Mancini's score for Blake Edwards's 1964 farce THE PINK PANTHER that introduced his music to generations of children; the haunting, jazzy main theme was used in dozens of cartoon shorts that were broadcast on television for years. Aside from that familiar tune, the majority of this soundtrack consists of swinging-'60s jazzy pop exotica with a Continental flair and a sly sense of humor, most notably the madcap "Shades of Sennett." You also get one of Mancini's finest pop songs, "It Had Better Be Tonight," here in both an instrumental and a vocal version, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. (Sadly, ...
| | David Hart Dedication To David Bowie CD (2003)
Shall We Dance? Soundtrack songs
$16.45 Most tribute albums, for better or worse, pay homage to the artist by covering some of their finest hits. However, don't be fooled by this title. There are no David Bowie songs anywhere to be found on this record. It is an entire album paying tribute in song to Ziggy, and the results couldn't be further from Bowie's legacy. Mastered from a cassette tape that was found underwater and recorded over a poor telephone connection, David Hart thought it a good idea to muddle the entire album in flange and phasing, making the album retain no sense of bottom end within in the mix, and the vocals rendered non-intelligible in a non-deliberate way. The album opens with the epic "Johnny Saves the World," and it all goes downhill from here. References both obvious and obscure are all over from start to finish, which is probably the only thing worthy of mention. And while the intentions and tribute are sincere, sometimes it's best to just write a fan letter like everyone else. ~ Rob Theakston
By purchasing this music you'll support the Radio talk music show called" Hart of the Music" which features cdbaby artists and more to help promote their music and careers. So as wacked out as the concept of this album is please support Hart of the Music! This is a metaphysical musical dedication: It's pretty out there because you expected cover tunes of Bowie by Hart and Ra! Nope that ain't it. It's stranger than that. It's the affect that Bowie music had on us and ...

Shall We Dance? Soundtrack CD music
$18.99 Recorded July, 1956. June 1995, February 1998, It was a summer day in 1956, Mr. Boone Reid of Morganton, NC took his wife, four sons and five daughters on a family outing to nearby Cone Mansion. The brilliant folksinger, song-collector, folklorist Paul Clayton happened to be walking the grounds with a guitar slung over his back. Mrs. Etta Baker remembers, âMy daddy introduced himself and asked Paul to let me play the guitar. I played a song I put together, âOne-Dime Bluesâ and Paul was amazed, he got directions to our home, and he was over the next day with his tape-recorder along with Liam Clancy and Diane Hamilton.â Clayton issued some of these recordings on an album he produced that became among the most influential recordings of the folk era, âInstrumental Music from the Southern Appalachiansâ on Diane Hamiltonâs, Tradition Records.Ettaâs finger-style guitar playing on âOne-Dime ...
