This ten-song live collection of Sex Pistols material captures the pioneering British punk band's first lineup, featuring Glen Matlock on bass. These are live versions of songs taken from the Pistols' only official studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, along with cover versions of the Monkees' "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" and the Stooges' "No Fun." For all the hoopla surrounding the band during its short-lived career, this budget-line BMG Special Products release is more mediocre than raw. ~ Al Campbell Sex Pistols Extended Versions Songs Extended Versions Review

$11.05 Although its numerical title seems to indicate that this is yet another sequel to Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE (itself often listed as ZOMBI 2 to capitalize on the success of DAWN OF THE DEAD, which was also known as ZOMBI) and ZOMBIE 3, ZOMBIE 4 is actually a (what else?) zombie movie originally known as AFTER DEATH that was renamed to link to its supposed precursors. Set on a verdant tropical island where, 20 years before, a voodoo priest turned all of its inhabitants into the living dead, ZOMBIE 4 finds the only non-zombie descendent of the island returning to her ...

| | Riot Narita CD (1979) Import
Extended Versions CD music
$18.59 New York's Riot is unfortunate representative of a "lost generation" of American hard rock bands. Formed in the late '70s, when widespread record industry recession conspired with disco's airwave domination and headline-grabbing (but little-album-selling) punk rock to drive even some of the decade's most successful heavyweight dinosaurs (Black Sabbath, Kiss, etc.) to the brink of extinction, Riot saw precious few of their contemporaries (most notably Van Halen) actually make it through to the big time. Not so lucky as the California quartet, Riot had to seek out a foreign label to take a chance on their stellar eponymous debut in 1977, and then financed a second, Narita, on their own dime before managing to lure a still rather hesitant Capitol Records to pick it up. Finally released in late 1979, Narita was named after the Japanese airport controversially built on sacred ground (hence its bizarre album cover) and contained slick but powerful hard rock -- nowhere near as combustible as VH's debut, but hardly squeaky-clean like Boston's, either. In fact, the record's more considered tracks, such as "Waiting for the Taking" and "Kick Down the ...

| | Ultrababyfat No Ringo No CD (2006)
Extended Versions music CDs
$9.75 Atlanta indie rock institution Ultrababyfat breaks a five-year silence with the release of No Ringo No, its fourth overall release and its first on Two Sheds. This latest effort, while cementing Ultrababyfat’s reputation for raw-edged, hook-heavy pop gems, shows songwriting range which keeps the record sounding fresh and distinct from its previous releases. Whether it be the agitated piercing punk of “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father,” the breezy vibe of “Cool Shoes,” the doo-wop sway of “Climb,” or staccato shuffling riff and enticing harmonies of “Pollyanna,” No Ringo No never fails to please.Ultrababyfat is the collaborative product of lifelong friends Shonali Bhowmik and Michelle DuBois, whose history of composing music dates back to their junior high days in Nashville. After a brief separation for college and a stint together in Santa Cruz, the pair each individually relocated to Atlanta in the early 90s, at which time the band began in earnest as Babyfat.Paired with rhythm section Laurie Garner and Maricio Carey, the band released Dragons Go Away on Sister Ruby Records in 1995 as Babyfat (the band ultimately added the “Ultra” prefix when some bar band appeared from out of the woodwork to claim the Babyfat name). The result of having one lo-fi masterpiece record under its belt and building a reputation of energetic live sets, considerable buzz built around the band, and Walter Yentikoff’s Velvel Records snatched the band from the unsigned masses. The Velvel debut, 1998’s Silver Tones Smile, featured a new rhythm section – Britta Phillips (subsequently of Luna) and Shane Sanders – and a much larger production budget. The record was primarily recorded by Doug Easley at Easley Studios in Memphis and mixed at Keith Cleversley’s Playground in Chicago. Silver Tones Smile was a smash hit on the CMJ and Gavin college radio charts, which led to critical media praise, successful tours, a video appearance ...
