LIVE AT THE GREEK should dispel any doubts about Josh Groban's enormous appeal. The CD/DVD combo documents the young singer's final stop of his 2004 tour at the historic Los Angeles venue, and demonstrates why he's earned the ear-splitting screams of adoring fans. Groban is a charismatic performer who wraps a powerful baritone voice in boyish charm, and shows keen instincts in selecting material that's ideally suited to his talents.
This performance focuses mainly on selections from Groban's multi-platinum CLOSER album, including powerful accounts of "Oceano," "Remember When It Rained," and "Never Let Go," among others. But LIVE AT THE GREEK also showcases his range and versatility as in his versions of Paul Simon's "America" and Don McLean's "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)," as well as a surprising cover of Linkin Park's "My December." (The latter two songs are available on the DVD portion only.) Groban contributes an exuberant drum solo (yes, drum solo) to "Canto Alla Vita," and the fine violin work of Lucia Micarelli is featured on "Mi Mancherai (Il Postino)." Fans will enjoy the DVD extras including a bonus performance of "Believe" (from the film THE POLAR EXPRESS) and a guest appearance by superstar banjoist Bela Fleck on "Alla Luce Del Sole."
This 2004 PBS Great Performances special, taped at L.A.s Greek Theater, will be broadcast during he holiday season. Bela Fleck appears as guest artist. DVD features include Dolby Stereo 2.0, Dolby 5.1 Surround, and DTS. The DVD also features behind the scenes footage. The set is available in jewel case or amaray packaging.
Package includes bonus DVD.

The rest, as they say, is history. But can the precocious baritone truly ...

Live At The Greek
$9.19 The raucous ska-punk sounds of Reel Big Fish began gaining favor in the mid 1990s and continued to gain serious momentum well into the 2000s. While their Southern California party-hard vibe was linked to the likes of No Doubt and Sublime, Reel Big Fish were distinguished by their horn section, which gives their sound slightly vintage ska charm. GREATEST HITS AND MORE collects some of the band's best, including "Everything Sucks," "Don't Start a Band," and their breakthrough single, "Sell Out." By skimming the cream from the group's first decade, the set offers an ideal introduction to these beach-and-beer favorites.
It's become something of an inside joke with Reel Big Fish that their only career success was the mainstream invasion of 1996's "Sell Out," as the band was always joking it was the only song people ever wanted them to play. Hell, they even wrote a song about the supposedly exasperating situation ("One Hit Wonderful") for their 2005 album. The guys are partially right ...
