If you're going to pillage someone else's ideas, then go for broke. Because even if you find yourself crammed between the barriers of creative space, utterly at a loss for ideas, expression, or thought, you'd still have a self-respect buzzing in your ear like a mad angelic insect, putting down the newspaper and taking out a cigar to remind you that, hell, if want to sound like Radiohead when even Thom Yorke doesn't want to sound like Radiohead, you might as well take it to preposterous, bombastic, over-the-top levels. Add church organs, mental electronics, riffs bouncing off each other like the monolithic screams in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and you'll finally be in position to crack skulls like coconuts and make the world's speakers ooze gooey blood. ~ Dean Carlson The sophomore release by this English rock trio makes good on the promise of the band's debut, SHOWBIZ. Like that album, ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY is a lush, artfully arranged album of epic, heady rock (complete with electronics, swirling guitars, baroque keyboard embellishments, and dramatic vocals) that is sure to garner comparisons to Radiohead. In addition to their grand sonic canvases, though, Muse have a way with a melodic hook, and consequently balance out the progressive tendencies of the music with straightforward rock accessibility. All of these factors are more pronounced on ORIGIN than on the debut, and the result is a release that positions Muse as one of the more promising acts on the U.K.'s new rock scene. Overall most amazing record I've ever heard And yes, that overrides any Radiohead albums. They have a completely unique sound in this one that they somewhat lack in there other albums. Absolution is their "safe" album. Showbiz being way overboard and more dark. If you like overly dramatic music this is for you. You have to listen to it a few times to appreciate its intricacies, although when you first hear it you may be knocked off you feet. Submitted by carrie (Indianapolis, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Great Album Better album than their Absolution CD. Recording is clearer. The songs are typical Muse.
Muse fans will not be disappointed. Submitted by Rich in (Salt Lake City, UT, the greater USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
