| | Dean Martin Happy In Love / Like Never Before CD (2005)
Time For Love/A Travellin' Man
$11.95 When Dean Martin signed with Reprise Records in 1961 after a long tenure with Capitol, his old label may not have thought it was losing much, with rock & roll on the rise and old-school vocalists like Martin fading in popularity. But to the surprise of many, Martin became even more popular through the 1960s, and "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" managed to nudge the Beatles from the top of the singles chart in 1964. As Dino's star continued to rise, Capitol kept his old albums for the label in print and between 1965 and 1967 put together four LPs of rare singles and unreleased tracks that were quietly released through its affiliated label Tower Records. Those four albums have become coveted collector's items among Martin fans, and Collectors Choice has finally given them their CD debut on a pair of two-fer reissues. Happy in Love is, as you'd expect, a collection of love songs, and while Martin is game on all ten tunes, the songs are not always up to his usual standards, though fans will be pleasantly surprised to find one track, "Rue de Mon Amour (Street of Love)," which was co-written by Dino, and "I'm Gonna Paper All My Walls With Your Love Letters" closes out the album on a rollicking note. ...
| | Dean Martin Winter Romance CD (1959)
Time For Love/A Travellin' Man
$11.79 A Winter Romance is perhaps best described as a "seasonal" album rather than a Christmas or holiday release, despite the inclusion of such familiar fare as "White Christmas" and "Winter Wonderland." Dean Martin has also included such standards as "The Things We Did Last Summer" and "June in January," as well as some specially written material such as Sammy Cahn and Ken Lane's title song and "It Won't Cool Off." Nevertheless, with its lush strings, well-scrubbed vocal choruses and buoyant mood, this collection has an appropriately festive feel. Martin does a competent job, even having fun here and there when the song allows him to present his take on a similar baritone (Bing Crosby on "White Christmas," Vaughn Monroe on "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!") or when the subject matter strays to something more comfortably suggestive like "Baby, It's Cold Outside" (performed with a female vocal chorus instead of a single ...

Time For Love/A Travellin' Man
$13.45 Deborah Tranelli is a veteran actress and singer who loves music from many eras and styles, as her ability to adapt to the mood of any song is immediately apparent. Her rich alto effortlessly conveys the message of each piece as she is accompanied by a sympathetic group of musicians. She conveys her playful side in "A Lot of Livin' to Do" and in her coy duet with bassist Doug Romoff in the introduction to the decades-old standard "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home." Tranelli soars in the brisk bossa nova arrangement of the time-tested standard "The Way You Look Tonight" and the loping take of "It Was Written in the Stars," both of which were ...
| | Stanley Brothers Essential Masters CD (2004) (Import) Germany
Time For Love/A Travellin' Man
$13.29 Arguably the first band besides Bill Monroe himself to apply his new bluegrass formula in performance, the Stanley Brothers and their fabled backing band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, have no betters in the annals of country music and very few equals. Their similar vocal timbres defined brother harmony in the '40s and '50s and provided the famed "high lonesome" feel to the music they themselves referred to as "mountain soul." THE ESSENTIAL MASTERS collects sides from their time on King ...
