Possibly the most bizarre member of the Insane Clown Posse extended family, Blaze Ya Dead Homie claims to be a rotting undead corpse who, after being gunned down in a drive-by shooting, was given a partial reprieve by supernatural forces. Naturally, when provided with a second chance at corporal existence, Blaze used the opportunity to hone his rhymes and devote his life (or lack thereof) to hip-hop. On his third solo effort, COLTON GRUNDY, the Michigan-based rapper treads some of the same freshly disturbed ground as labelmates Dark Lotus (of which Blaze Ya Dead Homie is a member)--namely, Snoop Dogg-esque mid-tempo G-funk matched with vintage monster-movie sound effects and heavy rock-style beats. All that, along with a heaping helping of (possibly) parodic lyrics about the virtues of murder ("Etched Out"), intoxication ("Roll It Up"), mocking the less fortunate ("Shotgun"), disrespecting women ("Hey You"), and other juggalo fantasy-world fun, makes this a frightening and rump-shaking addition to the ever-growing Psychopathic Records canon.

$9.85 The Psychopathic Records sound--with its odd mixture of macabre humor, circus-meets-hip-hop beats, and gangsta-rap style--moved out of Detroit, Michigan and exploded upon the rest of the world in the late 1990s. However, it had been around years before that, with Esham and the Insane Clown Posse releasing tons of albums devoured ...

| | Men At Work Business As Usual CD (1982) Bonus Tracks
Colton Grundy album
$7.59 This Australian combo's 1982 debut was an instant worldwide smash, mostly due to the undeniably catchy pop songcraft of singer/songwriter Colin Hay. Of course, it didn't hurt that with the group's reggae undertones and Hay's yelping tenor, they bore a superficial resemblance to early-'80s pop gods The Police, but BUSINESS AS USUAL is far from derivative.
A gift for the hook was Men At Work's most powerful weapon, from the impossibly catchy sax riff on the paranoid pop tune "Who Can It Be Now" to the staccato flute line marking the chorus of the reggae-ish "Down Under." "Down By the Sea"'s atmospheric poignancy proves there's another level of depth to the band's work, and the driving "Underground" adds a unique socio-political edge to the proceedings.
It took Sony Music 22 years to upgrade Men at Work's Business as Usual, but at least they got it right -- one of the biggest-selling LPs of the 1980s, it was never better than an average sounding CD until this 2003 reissue, which not only offered significantly upgraded sound but four bonus tracks as well, extending its running time to over 50 minutes. From the in-your-face drums opening "Who Can It Be Now?," this CD is worth the purchase for the upgrade -- you can almost hear the action on Colin Hay's crunchy rhythm guitar and Ron Strykert's chiming lead, and Greg Ham's sax is blowing right out of the bell, and when the chorus comes up at the end....it feels like a live performance. The same goes for everything ...

| | Jedi Mind Tricks Army Of The Pharaohs CD (2006)
Colton Grundy songs
$13.89 Since their debut, Jedi Mind Tricks have invited a legion of guest rappers to their full-lengths, and Army of the Pharaohs could well be the dénouement; under the billing "Army of the Pharaohs," nearly a dozen different rappers make a total of 50 appearances (all those on just 13 tracks). Also, the record apparently has a concept behind it (from the subtitle "The Torture Papers," at least), but neither Vinnie Paz nor Stupe nor any of the guests ever enlighten listeners about what the concept is, or what it means. (The best bet is yet more conspiracy theories, perhaps wrapped up with some Egyptology, and endless Middle Eastern war.) The only things left to glean from this record are the performances and the productions. As for the productions, it's ...
