Sally's Music Circle is a weekly music class in Pennsylvania for very young children, infants to age 5, and their parents. An important part of our music classes of singing, dancing and instrument play is our CD of songs and activities that families use for music play at home and in the car. Sally's Music Circle has produced six different CDs for use in our classes and "Mary Wore Her Red Dress" is the second of our CDs that is available to the general public. Parents and grandparents report that our CDs are their children's #1 choice for all car rides. Parents tell us they enjoy listening to our CDs even when their kids are not in the car. They also report that even their youngest pre-verbal, car seat occupants have figured out a way to ask for their Sally's Music Circle CD in the car.Each CD has a variety of songs and activities in different styles, rhythms and tonalities from around the World. There are seven different professional singers and nineteen nationally known instrumentalists in this richly diverse collection of songs selected and arranged to encourage singing and music play in very young children. You'll love it when you see your child sing, coo, move, shake, clap and bop to our songs.What makes this CD special? It's great that CD Baby will let you listen to our songs! Listen and you will hear the difference but also . . .(1) This is probably one of the few CDs where your very young child can sing along with all the songs. Why? Because young children have a small singing range. They can only physically sing from about middle C to the A above middle C, so all our songs are in that range. (2) Are only 10 notes boring? NO. In selecting songs, we picked from "tried and true" songs that have withstood the test of time. We've included songs families have loved for generations such as "Get On Board" and a "Greek Dance" tune. But we have also carefully selected a few choice newly composed songs like "Hootchy Kootchy Dance" and our "Parenting Jig". Growing up I had a very distinct childhood musically. No one I knew played an instrument and no one I knew was in a band but my parents always had music on. I remember listening to Prince, Micheal Jackson, The Cars, John Fogerty, John Anderson, Randy Travis and on and on. My mom always loved Motown records so from her I got a steady dose of Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Four Tops, Supremes, Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye and so on. Then my dad would play his records which included Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Dr. Hook, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, and all the great rock of the sixties and seventies. Looks can sometimes be deceiving……or at least, sort of. One look at Georgia born and bred Wil Hodge, and you might assume that his musical style swings to the bluesy roadhouse side. He is pictured inside a club, with guitar in hand, and his burly physique would definitely lend itself to that line of thinking. While Hodge’s music does has its’ rough hewn moments, he can also be tender and sentimental on the turn of a dime. Stylistically, Hodge fares best when he turns up the guitar and belts it out, as he does on the album’s opener, “Evicted.” There’s just something about the blues when it sounds like the person singing has actually lived the words. On the title track, he conjures up the best of Confederate Railroad. No, it’s not textbook, pitch-perfect singing. However, I dare say that anyone who witnesses a performance from Hodge (either live on record) will be entertained. The lyrics are pretty catchy, and he knows how to put a smile on your face, like he does on “Cock A Doodle Do.” I guarantee you won’t find anything in Nashville quite like it.
