Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Lionel Hampton, one of music's greatest percussionists and the first jazz vibraphonist, performs live in concert on LIONEL HAMPTON AND THE GOLDEN MEN OF JAZZ. Since the 1930s Hampton has been respected as a dynamic and unique vocalist and percussion player. In this concert he is backed by a similarly legendary lineup of jazz musicians with decades of experience; the youngest of the group, saxophonist Benny Golson, was 64 at the time of the concert recording in 1993. Hampton himself was 84, and amazingly still retains the energy and enthusiasm that made him a standout musician to begin with. The performance captured here was such a success that the audience bestowed it with a twenty-minute ovation. A great show by virtuoso jazz musicians is captured on LIONEL HAMPTON AND THE GOLDEN MEN OF JAZZ. Lionel Hampton & The Golden Men Of Jazz - Live In Europe DVD
$9.69 In what just might be the finest rock & roll concert film ever, THE LAST WALTZ celebrates the final performance by the Band (Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Levon Helm, and Garth Hudson). The show took place on Thanksgiving Day in 1976, at San Francisco's Winterland Arena--where the group had played their very first show more than 16 years before. In order to make their farewell even more unforgettable, they recruited numerous guests to join them onstage, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Hawkins, Paul Butterfield, Emmylou Harris, Neil Diamond, the Staple Singers, Dr. John, Ringo Starr, Ron Wood, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Martin Scorsese, a former roommate of Robbie Robertson's, employs some of the world's greatest cinematographers--including Michael Chapman, Vilmos Zsigmond, and Laszlo Kovacs--to film the set in a way that captures the show's sweat and energy with a powerful intimacy. Interspersed into the songs are a series of interviews with the Band's members, who recall their early days playing for empty bars and their emergence as major players in the rock & roll game. THE LAST WALTZ is a thrilling concert film, mandatory viewing even for those unfamiliar ...

Lionel Hampton & The Golden Men Of Jazz - Live In Europe movie DVD
$7.15 Bobby Troup hosted this excellent television show that featured the best in contemporary jazz; this episode collects a stunning array of jazz heavyweights together on one stage. The performance was given in 1959, three years after Miles' legendary album THE BIRTH OF THE COOL, around the same time that he released the seminal KIND OF BLUE. John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, and the Gil Evans Orchestra, among others, all joined Davis at the show. This is an important document of a musician who was responsible for changing the face of the American music scene many times over, and will be an appreciable addition to the collection of any jazz enthusiast.
