| Jazz Loves Paris Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Jazz Loves Paris - a nice love affair ‘Jazz Loves Paris’ is exactly what it claims to be – jazz versions of popular French songs of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It is easy listening jazz, not heavy serious jazz, and so it might disappoint serious jazz buffs looking for extended improvisations. The songs are not the vehicles for jazz; jazz is the vehicle for the songs. That having been said, the album makes for very pleasant listening, even for avid jazz fans. Excellent playing by Gilbert Sigrist and the other members of the trio, as well as the tenor sax added on a couple of tracks. Rating: as a jazz album 3/5; as an easy listening (jazz) album 4/5. $14.79 24 track compilation contains "hot jazz" from 1927-30 from the bandleader billed as the "King Of Rhythm". Features Kenny Sargent, Sonny Clapp and Goof Morrison, plus future members of the Casa Loma Orchestra, Pat Davis and Frank Martinez. Blue Steele's e
Personnel includes: Blue Steele, Kenny Sargent, Sonny Clapp, Goof Morrison, Pat Davis, Frank Martinez. Recorded from 1927-1930. Arkansas-born trombonist Blue Steele led a tangentially popular dance band in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee during the late 1920s. Despite decades of subsequent professional activity, most of his recognized recorded legacy fits onto one compact disc. In 2002, the Vintage Jazz Band label reissued two dozen of the 32 Victor recordings known to have been made by Blue Steele and His Orchestra in Altanta, GA and Memphis, TN during the years 1927-1930, including Steele's luxuriant theme song, "Coronado (Brings Memories of You)." Because these sessions took place immediately prior to the rise of the rudimentarily amplified string bass, Steele's was a tuba-driven ensemble. The brass bass players held to be responsible for rhythmic propulsion were Marvin Longfellow (who also wrote arrangements) and, in 1930, the mighty Cookie Trantham. Much of the orchestra's working repertoire consisted of romantic love songs. Sonny Clapp's "Girl of My Dreams," a marvel of honey-basted sentimentality, was destined ...

Jazz Loves Paris
$18.79 England.... The Midlands.... 1972:It's a warm summer's day some time in your teenage years.... Only a few weeks of school to go, and you're looking forward to that long summer break. You've avoided a ride home with your neighbour in his 2-door Vauxhall Viva (a small English sedan with less cred than an AMC Pacer....) - you always had suspicions about the back seat and could see no escape route, so you're now seated at one of the Formica-topped tables in the Bus Station Café. Plastic sauce bottles shaped like giant tomatoes and chrome-topped glass sugar dispensers sit on the counter next to the grimy Gaggia machine which hisses like an Express Train. The summer's heat cooled by the ice-cold glass of orange crush you are drinking and occasionally stroking across your forehead. Orange drink always tasted good if it was referred to as "crush" rather than "squash", and somehow even better if it was drawn from a cooler with plastic oranges rotating aimlessly inside its transparent reservoir. Then you hear it. You're not sure at first whether you've heard the coffee machine or the Still (Hastings Ltd) hot water jet filling another aluminium teapot. You soon realise it's coming from the Tannoy, and it sounds strangely musical.Inspired by all those little themes from BBC Testcard Tunes from the 1960s, Sundae Club's debut album, TECHNOSTALGIA, has already been compared to Air, Lemon Jelly and more recently The Real Tuesday Weld. Mainly instrumental, but with a smidgin of vocal contribution, it's a thoroughly English-sounding record, recalling the spirit of British Leyland Industrial Action; the advent of Decimalisation; the days of Dual Standard 405/625 line TV, and the discovery of North Sea Gas (RIP). The cracking 6-panel Digipak cover was designed by Ian Bilbey, the creator of those stylish posters for the VW Beetle Cabriolet ...
