5 stars More than you bargained for.
There are a lot of reasons to buy this DVD that make me glad I took the punt on it. Firstly it is a serious and respectful homage to the music of John Coltrane which not only includes the best of a rivetting live performance recorded in a Dutch Jazz Club (over serveral nights) but also along with the DVD you get a CD of the music as well as extensive live interviews with the recently departed Alice Coltrane, Michael Brecker and others talking about "Trane", his life and times and his music. The band are very impressive as they recreate the "Love Supreme" suite.

My son-in-law pays jazz sax professinally. I thought a combo of John Coltraine's music and Brandon Marsalis's playing would be on target, and I was right. He also liked the fact that the DVD was in high def.
