Place album
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam Cooke ("Twistin' The Night Away"). Sidling up nicely next to these heartfelt interpretations are some of Stewart's finest original songs. Teaming with spiritual brother Ron Wood, Stewart offers ...

| | Tom Waits Glitter And Doom Live CDs (2009) Digipak
Place music CDs
$13.84 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single ...

| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Place album
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry is a band, not a person, and such reminders may be necessary because LEAVE THIS TOWN doesn't differ much in feel or form from DAUGHTRY. Overall, LEAVE THIS ...

| | Martine Mccutcheon You Me & Us CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Place album
$17.09 Martine McCutcheon's debut album arrived on a wave of public goodwill that virtually guaranteed success. Over 22 million viewers tuned in to watch the final scenes of her tragic character Tiffany Raymond-Mitchell on the hit U.K. soap Eastenders. Of course, as many a popular actor turned musician has learned the hard way, escaping the shadow of a much-loved character can be difficult. McCutcheon has a greater claim than most to a recording career though. Before her success as an actress she was in girl group Milan and lent vocals to a few dance tracks. She also has a strong, expressive voice, as befits a stage school graduate. The majority of You, Me & Us is made up of mid-tempo ballads which seem custom-made for adult contemporary radio. This sound is a good fit for McCutcheon, playing on her girl next door appeal and placing her alongside her idols Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion. Fans of those artists will certainly find much to enjoy here. Her voice soars on the chart-topping power ballad "Perfect Moment," and the mournful kitchen sink drama of "Talking in Your Sleep." Acoustic pop numbers such as "I've Got You" and "Love Me" ...

$40.75 There are two additional songs on the Japanese version of the album, "Waterfall" and "Too Many Times."
Heirs to the Britpop crown fashioned by Oasis and the Verve, Embrace play large scale, immediately accessible, hook-drenched rock designed to make engulf listeners in waves of feel-good melody. OUT OF NOTHING, the band's fourth album, refines the elements prominent on earlier releases, and boasts euphorically expansive production and a batch of well crafted songs tailor-made for the charts. A case in point is the album's first single "Gravity" (co-written by Coldplay's Chris Martin), a lush number packed with emotional passion and a swelling, open-the-floodgates chorus. It is little wonder that the album debuted at number one in the U.K in 2004.
Released Stateside in 2005, OUT OF NOTHING, with its soaring melodies, spiraling guitars, and epic aspirations, will likely meet with similar success in America. The album finds it packed with potential radio smashes-- from the anthemic opener "Ashes" ...

| | Who Endless Wire CD (2006) With DVD; Limited Edition
Place album
$13.55 Neither time, nor the deaths of founding members, nor claims that they'll never play together again seem to stop the legendary Who. On 2006's ENDLESS WIRE, the band's first official studio full-length since 1982's IT'S HARD, Pete Townshend is still folding progressive structures and lofty themes into bombastic, arena-ready rock, while Roger Daltrey belts it out as though it were still 1976. The Who's 2000s-era touring band, including drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino, and keyboardist John Bundrick, lend enough muscle to the musical attack here to recall the Who's glory days, and a host of studio musicians help flesh out and vary the sound.
Surprisingly, all of these elements--Townshend's songwriting, Daltrey's impassioned singing, and the band's tight performances--coalesce to create a remarkably consistent whole. At its best, ENDLESSWIRE resembles the band circa WHO'S NEXT (the synth intro to opener "Fragments," which directly references "Baba O'Reily," is a clear tip-off). In addition to nine new songs, ...
