Spirit Of Christmas album
$17.79 You might have expected that British label BGO Records, in reissuing Dory Previn's early-'70s albums as twofers, would pair her debut album, On My Way to Where, with her second, Mythical Kings and Iguanas, and her third, Reflections in a Mud Puddle/Taps Tremors and Time Steps, with her fourth, Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign. But On My Way to Where wasn't released in England until after the others, and BGO bloody-mindedly decided to follow the British release schedule, first releasing a twofer of Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign with On My Way to Where, then following with this disc containing Mythical Kings and Iguanas and Reflections in a Mud Puddle (the second part of the album's title is not listed on this release). While it would have made more sense to do it in the correct order, matching these two albums, which followed each other and were both released in 1971, is ...

Collectables' Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 5: WJMK 104.3 FM Chicago promises "25 Great Songs for the 25th of December," and for the most part it lives up to its word, delivering such '50s and '60s holiday standards as Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock," Jimmy Boyd's "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," and Gene Autry's "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." The collection also features several Motown Christmas songs, including the Temptations' "Silent Night," Diana Ross & the Supremes' "Silver Bells," and Stevie Wonder's "What Christmas Means to Me." Songs by the Cadillacs, Connie Francis, the Four Seasons, Dion, and the O'Jays round out this fun, festive compilation of Christmas oldies. ~ Heather Phares

Let It Snow! Let It Snow!." Aretha Franklin's "Winter Wonderland," America's "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," and Connie Francis' "White Christmas" are some of the other highlights from this scattered compilation, which somehow mixes different sounds and eras into a festive celebration. ~ Heather Phares
