Bess - born Robert Charles Bess is a Rhythm and Blues artist, that is a mixture of Old and New Schools. With singing that started as an adolescent in church BESS has made himself into a self-sufficient producer and artist. With talents such as playing piano and drums, as well as being a songwriter and performer, Bess represents the total package that any label is looking for. With over 10yrs of experience in the industry as well as having been previously signed to Warlock Records with the group HOOPla (a Hip-Hop Rap Duo) in 1993. BESS has transformed his experiences in life to a vibe and a message that he calls ghetto funk. With musical influences such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Al Jareau, BESS is the Gap that bridges the old school R&B to today's new Hip Hop/R&B sound. With a new millennium dawning Bess has what it takes to not only fit in but to make his mark on a wide-open industry. With several projects already completed, BESS is on target to impact the Summertime R&B scene. With his solo album completed, Bess is primed for a major explosion in 2003. With songs ranging from Smooth Jazz, to Hip-Hop, to Dance, Bess leaves no stone unturned in his production repertoire. With a guest appearance on the upcoming Divine Entertainment release the R.E.V. -The Last Millennium, he even shows his gospel roots by lacing two tracks with his smooth-laid back vocals. Bess has and will continue to strive to make his mark as he climbs the ladders of respect from both the music community and the public. With a drive and determination that never stops, Bess is ready to do what he was born to do; make music and take it to the masses. | | Isaac Hayes Best Of The Polydor Years CD (1996)
Vibe To This music CDs
$5.59 Isaac Hayes' stint with Polydor in the late '70s isn't always looked at as being one of his better eras. In fact, it's not looked upon highly at all by many of his fans. It's important to keep in mind, though, that Hayes had already seen enormous success and had released a sizable amount of legendary albums by the time the late '70s came around. In this respect, you really can't expect his later work to be on par with his classic early-'70s era with Stax -- no one could one-up albums like Shaft and Black Moses. Plus, the late '70s wasn't a kind era for any early-'70s soul icons as disco and funk moved black music from behind closed doors and into the clubs. Hayes had learned this the hard way during his short-lived mid-'70s run with ABC Records where he struggled to even chart, not to mention score a big hit. So when you really look at things from a wider view, sure, Hayes' Polydor years -- which began with New Horizon (1977) and ended with Lifetime Thing (1981) -- weren't on par with his Stax years, but they were still successful nonetheless. Hayes became more of a singles artist than an album artist as he had been with Stax. Because of this, it's perhaps best to seek out a best-of such as Best of Isaac Hayes: The Polydor Years rather than bother with his individual albums. This album collects 12 of his best moments from the era such as the somewhat notorious "Moonlight Lovin' (Ménage à Trois)" and other disco-flavored songs like "Zeke the Freak" that may have not stormed up the charts but did fill the dancefloor on occasion. This collection provides the insight for fans about a difficult period in Hayes' career where he struggled to age gracefully and adjust to the jarring force of disco. It shows that contrary to popular belief, Hayes did find success during this era, even if it was only sporadic. ~ Jason Birchmeier

Vibe To This CD music
$15.69 The reissue of the 1975 Shuggie Otis album Inspiration Information last year caused a storm, one of the great albums and careers that time forgot . A soul album tinged with jazz and off kilter funk, its DIY approach and lo-fi electronics predicted much of what would follow at the end of the 20th Century. The album was recorded at sessions during the period 1972-1974. Before, during and after this period Shuggie Otis continued his work as a session musician partly for his father's (Johnny Otis) ongoing productions at his own Hawk Sound Studios, where much of Inspiration Information was recorded . What RPM presents you with is the best of the sessions Otis Jnr recorded around the same period in the same studio with many of the same sidemen . The specific project Johnny Otis had embarked upon was to record some of the pioneers of R&B in a modern context for release on the Blues Spectrum label series. Shuggie was used as session guitarist, pianist, arranger, writer. The music on our compilation is a mixture of Blues, R&B, Funk, Soul, all recorded in the same DIY lo-fi way at Hawk Sound studios, across 1973-1977 with many of the same sidemen such as brass players Jack Kelso, Doug Wintz and Curt Sletten. It represents a perfect back drop to the ...
