Luis Miguel can always be counted on to deliver romance upon demand, with his trademark persuasive vocal style and luxurious musical arrangements. But with 2004's MEXICO EN LA PIEL, he breaks with tradition (at least on the title track), to acknowledge his fealty to his home country of Mexico. However, the album is by no means a set of patriotic ballads--Miguel remains as devoted to romance as ever on "De Que Manera Te Olvido," with the aid of stirring, passionate strings, and "Echame a Mi La Culpa," with its mariachi-flavored horns. His specialty is the pleading, broken-hearted lover, a role he plays with infectious enthusiasm on "Que Seas Feliz," but on "Un Mundo Raro," he acknowledges that love of one's country can exert a pull as strong as the love of another person. Miguel's lush, string- and horn-laden arrangements work their usual magic, and his expressive vocals exert their compelling power over the entirety of MEXICO EN LA PIEL.

$8.65 Classy Latin pop from the veteran ballad singer, whose youth belies his long musical career (he won his first Grammy at age fifteen in 1985 for a duet with none other than Sheena Easton--who knew?) and immense popularity. $9.29 33 was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
On 33, Latin superstar Luis Miguel sticks to his guns, belting out more light pop tunes on this all-Spanish-language outing. "Un Te Amo" starts things off on a breezy yet emotive note, while "Con Tus Besos" revisits energetic 1970s-style horn-laden pop. This slightly funky style is also present on songs such as "Eres," "Y Sigo," and "Vuelve," conjuring up images of a Spanish SOLID GOLD-like variety show. Of course, no Miguel album would be complete without a few ballads, and he delivers on tracks such as ...

Mexico En La Piel album
$8.99 One of Mexico's most successful artists of the 1990s, Alejandro Fernandez is the son of celebrated ranchera singer Vicente Fernandez, and has continued his family's rich tradition of heartfelt vocalizing into the new millennium. The smooth pop of A CORAZON ABIERTO is a slight departure for Fernandez, but his sensitive vocals are well suited to his material, which varies from the throbbing, sentimental "Me Dedique A Perderte" to the ...

$15.65 Strangely, this 2006 collection is the phenomenally successful Latino superstar's first album of Christmas songs, in a career that scored its first international hit in the mid 1980s with a duet with Sheena Easton. His undeniably expressive tenor swoops and soars over a jazzy, big-band backing, on a program of seasonal favorites that includes Spanish versions of "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" ("Frente A La Chimenea"), "I'll Be Home For Christmas" ("Estar En Mi Casa Esta Navidad"), and a heartfelt reading of Charlie Chaplin's melancholy "Smile" ("Sonrie") that ...
