Ring Them Bells songs
$9.59 Thebrotheregg offer modest psychedelic-tinged indie pop on Snowflake and Fingerprint Machine, which has a wistful feel that's a little reminiscent of fellow Northwest artist Jeff Kelly. There are nice pastoral acoustic-electric guitar textures and subdued keyboards, as well as guest insertions for everything from violin and static to recorder, bassoon, flute, trumpet, and meows. In ambience they're in the same rough ballpark as early-'70s British eccentrics like Ray Davies and Kevin Ayers, though not explicitly derivative of those figures in particular. The hazily mixed lyrics do meander along random paths that might strike some as evocative, and some as meaningless; the song title "Cauldrons of Eyeball Soup" gives you an idea of what to expect. There are some tangents into avant-garde art rock noodling, with loops of recorder, varispeed voices, outer-space oscillations, and the like that contrast with the generally tuneful and gentle tenor of the songs with vocals. That alone might be enough to put it on the Olivia Tremor Control fan's ...

Ring Them Bells music CDs
$18.99 Creative melodies combined with cool jazz grooves to chill out moods describes this latest offering from the Philippine's most popular contemporary jazz icon. This CD promises to be the Filipino jazz pianist's very best release for 2005. Boy, who also is resident tour pianist-keyboardist for jazz artist Paul Taylor, is joined here by tour mates Ray Mouton-Guitar & KT Tyler-Bass. Also featuring Hawaii's David Choy-Sax, sister Maria Katindig Dykes & Keith Martin-Vocals. A must have CD for all contemporary jazz listeners! "Complementing his acoustic piano with Fender Rhodes and various synth textures, Boy Katindig's ready to start "groovin' high" and energize the contemporary jazz keyboard realm with his catchy, ultra funky and melodic style". "One of the best independently released genre discs of the year, Groovin' High features the perfect blend of laid back romance, spirited, optimistic uptempo gems and even an electrified Latin jam that will get you up dancing"---Jonathan Widran. Philippine born Jazz Pianist and International Recording Artist Boy Katindig, comes from a well-known clan of musicians who pioneered Latin jazz in Manila. His father is Philippines' jazz legend, Romy Katindig. After playing with a host of successful bands in Manila like "Bits & Pieces" & the legendary "Circus", Boy formed the "Boy Katindig Band" in 1978, In 1978, Boy signed up with A&W Records International and recorded several albums under the Horizon label. " Midnight Lady", his first album was awarded "Best Instrumental Composition" by the Himig Awards and Gold for the single which preceded it "Don't Ask My Neighbor". The album was released in the U.S. by PAUSA, who had smooth jazz pioneers Tom Grant & Alphonse Mouzon in its artist roster. "Aftermidnight" followed and then "Love Fusion". ...

Ring Them Bells songs
$12.69 San Francisco's Fourteen formed from the ashes of Shining Scribes, the Bay Area group Fourteen vocalist/songwriter Jeff Salman co-founded with drummer Gabriel Respicio. Despite a strong local following and a full-length CD release, the Scribes fell victim to the thing that so many bands are defenseless against: reality. The Scribes broke up, with both Salman and Respicio moving on to careers in optometry. But the two friends were soon playing music again and, together with bassist Ken Mahru and Respicio's percussionist brother Michael, formed the new band Fourteen. Space, the band's debut EP on their own Spank Records imprint, is a melodic affair with a debt to mid-to-late '90s alternative rock like Collective Soul or the Verve Pipe. Salman's over-emotive vocals dominate most of the material, but "Will You Return" does shift nicely from a brooding, bass-driven beginning into a urgent, harmony-drenched second half, and the plinks of a toy piano save "Little Man" from mundanity. Overall, Space is a solid, if uneventful, debut release that sketches out the path Fourteen will take in the future. ~ Johnny Loftus
