In 1997, the band embarked on a world tour promoting their then-new album Black Moon, which included this performance at Montreux. It is the only film from this tour available. The set includes ELP classic from across their career. Also included are rare tracks that have never appeared on ELP studio albums. The booklet features individual sleeve notes from the band members. Comprised of Nice's keyboard player Keith Emerson, King Crimson's bassist Greg Lake, and the Atomic Rooster's drummer Carl Palmer, 1970s supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer crafted expansive, near-orchestral prog-rock influenced by jazz and classical music. Disbanding in 1979 and embarking on various solo careers, the trio reunited in the 1990s to produce a new album, BLACK MOON, for which they toured extensively in 1997. This concert captures Emerson, Lake & Palmer at the Montreux Jazz Festival that same year, performing a career-spanning selection of songs that includes "Karn Evil 9," "Hoedown," "Lucky Man," "Tarkus," "Fanfare for the Common Man," and many more. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Live At Montreux 1997 Movie Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Pure ELP Energy If you are a fan of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. This DVD is a must have to your music collection. It is an outstanding concert recording, both in sight and sound. There are few rock stars in the world today who possess the skills as these three did. Greg Lakes' rich vocals, Keith Emersons' oneness with the keyboards and Carl Palmers' precise drumming. This DVD just gets you going from the opening song to the last encore. Every song is a blast from the past and sure to please. If there one thing that I could say to them about this concert, it would be that it seemed to be stuck in the past. The concert could have been more of the evolution of the band throughout it's tenure. There was nothing from 'Love Beach' and only 'Touch and Go' as the most recent song played. But all in all, a great listening experience. Don't pass this one by. Submitted by bagtoter (Lansing, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
ELP Live at their Best Indeed This DVD is the best ELP Live dvd yet. I own all the previous ones like Pictures at an exhibition, Works Live in Montreal and Live at Royal Albert Hall, but this one is close to perfection. It truly is a shame that such talent that shines from this power trio has been dormant for so long due to ego trips; it makes you wonder why don't Keith and Carl get together and give John Wetton a call? This DVD has excellent shots on a very stripped down production but it is the music that comes through, no material from their 90s albums but runs gracefully thru their great early stuff including Tarkus, Pictures, From the Beginning, Lucky man and Hoedown. There is more but you be the judge, ELP to the hilt! Submitted by Leo (Katy, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
They Still Got It! A very well done concert video!! These three put together a very good line-up of songs to play considering the venue of the setting. Very professional and skilled musicians with very good theatrics included!! Strongly recommend this video!! Submitted by michel.pare (Grants Pass, OR) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A must have for every ELP fan! Although I prefer the 70's period this is by far the best ELP video release so far. It has great video and audio quality and shows the guys in very good form. It it possible that the context of a jazz festival was somewhat of a stimulation to them. Submitted by joergreinicke (Koenigsbach-Stein, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Live At Montreux 1997 DVD
$14.39 Drawing on a variety of influences, including country, indie-rock, and Latin rhythms to name just a few, Calexico has carved out an inimitable niche in the music world. Formed by core members Joey Burns and John Convertino in 1996, the band was initially conceived as a side project to Burns' and Convertino's work in Howe Gelb's Giant Sand. Success came quickly, however, and Calexico soon became a full time concern. Multi-instrumentalist Paul Niehaus (Lambchop) came on board in 2001, and the ...

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Live At Montreux 1997 video
$9.79 One of the immortal bard's most frequently performed works gets a first-rate cinematic treatment here, via director Michael Radford (IL POSTINO). Al Pacino is virtually unrecognizable as Shylock, bringing an old-world gravitas to the role and clearly inspiring the rest of the cast to match his intensity. They succeed, and the result is riveting, rousing entertainment. Even if one is familiar with the play in advance, this is white-knuckle suspense and swooning romance all the way through. A 16th-century Venetian sea merchant (Jeremy Irons), devoted to a young lord (Joseph Fiennes), owes a debt for "a ...
