| | Charles Aznavour Idiote Je T'Aime CD Charles Aznavour Discography of CDs
This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Throughout his long, prolific career, Charles Aznavour has worked in a variety of musical styles, from traditional French chanson to small-combo jazz to easy listening pop to a few rather odd side trips into the distinctively Gallic form of '60s beat music known as ye-ye. Yet 1995's IDIOTE JE T'AIME--yes, that translates to "I love you, Idiot"--showcases Aznavour in the style for which his perhaps best known and most beloved by his fans, backed by a full yet never overbearing orchestra (think Petula Clark, not Nelson Riddle-era Frank Sinatra.)
With songs--all self-penned--spanning nearly all of Aznavour's illustrious career, IDIOTE JE T'AIME is not unlike a greatest hits, only with all new recordings and often radical re-arrangements. The results are both an excellent starting point for newcomers and a delightful work for longtime fans. Charles Aznavour Idiote Je T'Aime Songs | 1. | Non Je N'ai Rien Oublie | |

Nobody who likes music could fail to be emotionally moved by this album, and not just because Marley is no longer with us. It was a special live treat before he died. The great thing about this record is the feeling that this is what it was like every night, unlike other live recordings which capture one or two gigs of a tour. Marley was extra special and a giant of popular music. Wallow in this vital record and listen to a man who had something to say and yet had fun while he said it. Most of the tracks you would want to be on the record are here, including the definitive version of 'No Woman No Cry' and a funky 'Lively Up Yourself'.
As the title implies, this is indeed Bob Marley & the Wailers captured in performance at the Lyceum Ballroom in London during the final U.K. leg of the Natty ...

| | Henry Kaiser Yo Miles!: Sky Garden CDs (2004) Sacd Hybrid
Idiote Je T'Aime
$19.75 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Sky Garden and Upriver were recorded at the same sessions, featuring the same band. A parallel can be drawn to Miles' Pangaea and Agharta, which were both recorded on the same day by the same band. Agharta was the afternoon show and Pangaea the evening show, and it's reflected in the performances. Agharta was more aggressive and in-your-face while Pangaea was more subdued and introspective in comparison. Here, Sky Garden plays Pangaea to Upriver's Agharta: a bit moodier and playing with a bit more space, but burning with the same intensity. Where Sky Garden departs from the other entries in the Yo Miles! catalog is the number of original tunes. Yo Miles! and Upriver both had only a single original tune written by Wadada Leo Smith; Sky Garden has four tunes penned by Smith (out of 11 total) and a collaborative group effort (punningly titled "Cozy Pete" after Miles' great guitar player) making nearly half of this album original material. It's an interesting (and successful!) move for a so-called "tribute band." Here's why it all works: this is a group of consummate musicians, each with a strong solo voice, who know how to listen and work as a band. Beyond that, they've internalized this music to such a degree that a casual Miles Davis fan might be hard-pressed to differentiate between the songs that Miles himself played and which are new compositions. Highlights are numerous. Everyone gets some solo space, and they take full advantage. Smith's solos on both trumpet and electric trumpet are fantastic, as is the playing from Greg Osby and John Tchicai. The three guitarists (Henry Kaiser, Mike Keneally, and Chris Muir) are consistently dazzling and generally easy to tell apart, except on "Gemini Double Image," where someone does an absolutely amazing job of re-creating John McLaughlin's playing and tone. Michael Manring's bass playing is the same sort of anchor that Michael Henderson supplied, and Steve Smith shows why his talents were mostly wasted on Journey. "Shinjuju," one of the Smith compositions, ...
