Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa video
$12.89 Recorded live at the 1982 Reggae Sunplash Festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this CD focuses on two solid reggae groups -- the Gladiators and Israel Vibration -- both of whom are in excellent form. Hearing the Jamaican groups side by side, it's easy to hear the parallels -- both use their music to promote a Rastafarian message, and both favor a classic, unpretentious approach to reggae that has a lot more in common with 1960s soul music than the slick urban contemporary recordings that were coming out in 1982. When the Gladiators tear into "Stick a Bush," "Hello Carol" and "Bongo Red" and Vibration offers "Highway Robbery," ...
| | Cradle Of Filth Midian CD (2000)
Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa film
$14.29 As satanic as anything need be, Cradle of Filth are a black metal ensemble from Suffolk, England, who've managed to keep it extreme, while being wildly popular internationally. They may be the most popular black metal band in the world because they've managed to break away from the genre's relatively small cult following and successfully infect all sorts of disaffected teenagers, especially in Europe. They never veer drastically from the usual black metal staples: movie monster-type vocals, lots of high-pitched screams, indecipherable lyrics, and relentless, punishing riffs. But Midian has its fair share of melody too. (Most of the finest metal does have some element of melody.) The album begins with a chorus of what sounds like some evil monks chanting and is at its very best when the ominous, classical-style keyboards kick in. ~ Adam Bregman

| | WWE Originals CD (2004) Bonus DVD; Limited Edition
Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa DVD
$7.59 To some, an album of pop songs sung by professional wrestlers may seem like an even worse idea than Magic Johnson hosting a late-night talk show. Any real Wrestlemania fan, however, knows that these properly pumped bruisers and their coiffed and curvy counterparts are as much entertainers as they are athletes.
On WWE ORIGINALS, each wrestler performs a song appropriate to his or her image and talents. In most cases, the results are not only competent; they're downright enjoyable. Rey Mysterio delivers a Latin hip-hop number that recalls the raps of Cypress Hill's B-Real, while Booker T's effort is pure West Coast G-Funk, served up in a booming, Chuck D-style baritone. On the pop/rock ...
| | Jesse McCartney Beautiful Soul CD (2004)
Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa movie DVD
$10.59 The closest thing to a male Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney has found success not only as a teen-pop recording artist, but as an actor, starring on the TV programs ALL MY CHILDREN, SUMMERLAND, and various Disney Channel shows. With BEAUTIFUL SOUL, the young vocalist makes his bid for musical credibility, turning in a well-crafted and danceable set of pop/R&B songs. Taking a cue from the mammoth success of Usher, McCartney comes right out of the box with "She's No You," a pumping track that reflects the urgency of young love with a rapid-fire verse followed by a crooning chorus, backed by hip-hop beats and Barry White-esque string arrangements. "Get Your Shine On" is pure old-school disco, and the mid-tempo groover "Come to Me" conjures Michael Jackson's THRILLER ...
