Filmed in May of 2004, the classic YES line-up of Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman and Alan White joined forces once again to celebrate their historic 35 years of creating music and memories together. With songs spanning their career, this magical show features many great classics performed as only this inimitable band can. Featuring a brand-new stage design by legendary designer and long-time Yes collaborator Roger Dean, this historic event harkens back to the epic stage shows of Yes’s past and brings the band full circle once again, solidifying their role as one of Rock and Roll’s most legendary bands. Formed in 1968, Yes has maintained a loyal fan base over its long career. Outlasting other progressive rock groups of the 1970s, Yes is one of the more successful bands to emerge from that musical genre. Featuring live performances of songs covering their career, this release celebrates their 35th anniversary. Fronted by Jan Anderson on Vocals, Yes also includes Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, and Alan White. In this release, Yes exhibits a style reminiscent of the epic concerts from their past. Performing on a stage designed by well-known Yes Collaborator Roger Dean, the band plays songs including: "Going For the One," "Sweet Dreams," "Your Move (All Good People)," "Mind Drive Parts 1 and 2," "South Side of the Sky," "Turn of the Century," "My Eyes/Mind Drive Part 3," "Yours is no Disgrace," "Runaround," "Wonderous Stories," "Time is Time," "Roundabout," "Show Me," "Owner of a Lovely Heart," "Rhythm of Love," "And You And I," "Ritual," "Every Little Thing," and "Starship Trooper."
Yes - 35th Anniversary Concert: Songs From Tsongas Movie Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews No disappointment at all This is a nice summary of Yes over the years. Though it lacks a couple of songs of my preference, not much is left aside. It leaves you with the music ringing in your head. Submitted by migueleduardomoran (El Salvador) Was This Review Helpful? OK, but not the best Yes DVD I would recommend the Symphonic Yes and/or House of Blues DVDs over this.
For the first time I noticed Jon's voice seemed to be a little worn, but perhaps it's because this concert was near the end of the tour. Submitted by dsmccann (Massachusetts) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Overall excellent - But...where's the snare? One has to remember, I think, that this performance was recorded for Soundstage. Having said that, still being a largely funded PBS endeavor, it isn't a wonder why you may not have heard of either the engineer or the mixing tech. The overall sound is great. The simple stereo mix while not the best "effected" sound does have the best overall balance of sound. In all the other mixes, I have to ask: Was the snare drum mic set at 2? Being a drummer I am somewhat of a non-objective listener. But I can't help but note how much more driven and live any recorded performance is when the 2 and the 4 stand out like a whip. Get this set though - Yes astounds even at the ripened ages of all the players. Submitted by Timbo (Nashua, NH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great, but it leaves me scratching my head it is a great concert, with Yes showing again why they were the prog kings. I am not sure they why they picked their final show on the tour to record the DVD. Visibly they were exhausted, and in some spots affected the music. Seems to me most bands if they are going to record something, would not pick their final show of the tour. Jon was straining towards the end, but he was still wonderful. The acoustic set was brilliant. Can they now get ino the studio one last time? They have been the road for 2 years on and off, and they have all their solo tours coming up soon. Maybe they can give us something fresh. Rehashing the old stuff is great, but give us something new, before Rick leaves for the last time in 2006. Submitted by teuscheld (JAcksonville, Fl. $44.25 Includes previously unreleased tracks. Yes: Jon Anderson (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, percussion); Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin (vocals, guitar); Chris Squire (vocals, bass instrument); Trevor Horn (vocals); Peter Banks (guitar); Geoffrey Downes, Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman, Tony Kaye (keyboards); Alan White , Bill Bruford (drums). A new Yes box is like a new Star Trek film. The same core group will buy it/see it whether it's crap or not, resulting in an endless cycle of repackaging that exploits the fans who made the franchises so popular in the first place. Yes have always seemed more of an industry than a band, so it comes as no surprise that their deeply rooted PR machine has dug up another collection of "previously unreleased gems," wrapped it in one of Roger Dean's hippie/sci-fi landscapes, and slapped on an exhaustive booklet of play-by-play anecdotes from fans and ...
