| Shades Of Blue Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) The Young Kirk Kirk Fletcher is another talented young blues guitarist on the block. This is his second release as a leader, and it’s terrific. If you like guitarists like Hollywood Fats, Junior Watson, Alex Schultz and Rick Holmstrom, then you’ll like Kirk Fletcher. This is a better solo outing than any of the others have put out. None of them sing, a couple try, not very successfully. Kirk doesn’t sing and doesn’t fall into the trap of providing inferior vocals. Instead he’s got some great singers guesting. Kim Wilson (who also plays harmonica), Janiva Magness (check out her solo releases) and Finis Tasby. They all get the job done very nicely indeed. But it’s still very much Kirk’s show with lot’s of tasty fretwork. He shines as a blues guitarist to keep an eye on. I look forward to his next release.

The finest Blues guitar for years. I've been lucky to've witnessed some of the finest Blues guitarists live.
I recall seeing Hendrix, Johnny Winter, when he was the top of his career,Peter Green,Otis Rush and Matt Murphy.
Now at last we have someone who is about to continue that legacy but with a sense of modesty and sincerity that is lacking today in music.(i've written to Kirk personally and i can tell you he's such a great, humble guy)
This CD proves that Kirk Fletcher is the BEST around.
His guitar tone is PERFECT for every song...he chooses the finest expressive phrases and has control of one of the most superb Blues finger vibratos since Otis Rush & Magic Sam.
Every solo leaves you breathless on this CD.
I especially like his inventiveness on the Booker T & MGs classic "Hip Hug Her".
If you purchase this CD i belive you are buying the best Blues music around today.
I wish Kirk a long, successful career. Submitted by peterlefaucheur (Ontario) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Tab Benoit Fever For The Bayou CD (2005)
Shades Of Blue CD music
$15.19 Tab Benoit's latest release on Telarc, Fever for the Bayou, continues in what has become Benoit's signature territory, a funky, ragged blend of Louisiana swamp blues and East Texas guitar, with hints of funk, soul, and country thrown in to give the gumbo just the right spice. If it sounds like a formula, well, Benoit's jagged guitar playing and increasingly soulful vocals make it clear that this is the music he loves, so it hardly matters. He touches a lot of bases here, including an eerie approximation of Elmore James' slide sound on a cover of James' "I Can't Hold Out" (which also features some cool tenor sax work from Jimmy Carpenter), then conjures Buddy Guy on Guy's "I Smell a Rat," fires up on the old Slim Harpo chestnut "Got Love if You Want It," and tears through a wonderfully swampy take on Levon Helm's "Blues So Bad" before ending things with an acoustic version of Clarence Williams' "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" (made famous by another Williams, ...

| | Roger Wallace Lowdown CD (2002)
Shades Of Blue music CDs
$12.59 Listening to the opening notes of Roger Wallace's The Lowdown creates something of a time warp. The music sounds like country formed in the tradition of George Jones and Merle Haggard, and one could easily imagine the title track fitting between "Bartender's Blues" and "The Fightin' Side of Me." But the album's credits, along with the clean, bright production, assures the listener that The Lowdown was cut in an up-to-date studio in 2002. On his third album, Wallace and his fellow travelers take a trip back to the 1950s and 1960s to explore a number of country styles. While the lonesome steel guitar of "What Did I Do (The Teardrop Song)" reminds one of a sad Hank Williams tune, "You're a Heavenly Thing" washes the blues away with a bit of Western swing. This eclectic approach keeps The Lowdown from sounding like another retro one-note band trying to fit in with the current alternative country scene. Wallace is a versatile vocalist, offering a resonant baritone on the title cut and smoothing things out a bit for the swinging "Me and Abalina Jane." Wallace's band also sounds ...
