Mama’s Blues Joint is formed in 2002 by the singer/composer Lene Strøyer.When Lene Strøyer went to U.S.A to study music, her love for soul/rhythm and blues was cemented at several occasions when she had the opportunity to sing with local rhythm and blues artists.Lene Strøyer is described as an extra ordinary singer, a great live performer, with a deep feeling for the blues.Back in Scandinavia she has performed at several blues and jazz clubs/festivals with the bands “Blues Train” and “Ladies Singing the Blues”.With her newest band the rhythm and blues band “Mama’s Blues Joint”,She uses her talent not only as a singer but also as a songwriter.On the bands debut CD “Mama’s Blues Joint” released in spring 2005, she has written 9 out of 11 songs. Lately, I have been very interested in today's generation of island musicians. For example, how is the music evolving? How and what are the differences in the instruments being used to produce the latest sounds? Is the music changing, and in what direction --- going back to earlier styles --- or advancing into 21st Century, more futuristic melodies and backgrounds?I have noticed a definite trend in a need to harmonize with nature and help the earth and other living species. Does this come from an awareness of the struggle taking place in nature? Are we becoming more aware of how the waters suffer from many pollutants, and living species are hunted and fished to the brink of extinction? It appears that more of us are concerned with what is happening to our earth and what this means for our future. I can sense this change in attitude in the music of the islands and the Americas.This latest CD, "Island Living," reflects the subtle but insistent changes coming into the 21st Century music.While attending college, I played at various bars and resorts to help pay for my education as a physicist. This valuable exposure to the life of working musicians convinced me to continue my education and make my way in the world of science. However, life throws interesting curves, and my goals and objectives were tinkered with and music never left the scene. Between extensive business travel and sailboat racing, I was introduced to Central and South America and most of the islands, especially in our hemisphere. Their rhythms and melodies never left me, until they exploded into a never-ending outpouring of musical compositions and a need to share them.
