I would recommend that these videos--"Swinging At His Best" (Basie, Ellington etc.)--not be purchased or sold on the web. They are clearly bootlegs and not of a high quality. The headline on the DVD--"This Production Is Not Authorized or Endorsed by the Estate"--is displayed clearly by the producers, "Passport Video," and they're not kidding. Time is just a little over 40 minutes and consists of PD film clips and soundies, all available in better quality elswhere. The producer even has the audacity to list the final title of each video--"Count Me In" (Basie), "Duke's Place" (Ellington)-- while in fact these are simply baldfaced commercials for the videos, a few seconds of clips you just watched with the producer's own music as the soundtrack. The Basie video even has three clips from the Ralph Gleason Jazz Casual Show, currently available and authorized by the estate, with a picture that is so bad and grainy that it could have been filmed directly off a TV with bad reception. These videos are clearly shabbily produced and made just for a quick buck. Shame on the producers and shame on those who sell them.
