Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Theatrical Release: TBA 2002/2003 Director Rich Murray puts the Philadelphia hip-hop scene on the cinematic map with SNIPES, an urban crime thriller that breathes fresh life into the genre. Erik (Sam Jones III) is an ambitious teenager who spends more time posting flyers for his favorite rapper, Prolifik (Nelly), than sitting in the classroom. When he and his best friend stumble across a dead body one night, they trigger a series of tragic events. It turns out Prolifik, as well as the master tapes for his new record, have been kidnapped by a gang of thugs who want Bobby Starr (Dean Winters), the ruthless president of Prolifik's label, to dish out a meaty ransom. If he doesn't, they promise to make sure Bobby's uncle and chief investor, the dangerous Johnny Marandino (Frank Vincent), knows just how carelessly Bobby has been spending his money. Through a misunderstanding, Erik becomes the target of Bobby Starr, as well as the kidnappers. Fearful for his own life, as well as his father's, Erik must find a way to get his hands on the master tapes, before Bobby Starr gets his hands on him. Murray's energizing film boasts credible performances (especially from rap superstar Nelly) and a pulsating hip-hop soundtrack.
This film screened in April 2002 in New York City as part of the Gen Art Film Festival. Snipes Reviews: "...[SNIPES] does a reasonably effective job of conveying the particulars of hip-hop culture....[Jones] is an appealing lead..."

Snipes Movie Review Better than 99% of the ghetto-flix! This is not your average hood-movie, with a lot of disrespectful characters shooting at everything that looks at you the wrong way.
Not that I don't enjoy those type of movies BUT this right here is something special.
First of all the acting is for the most parts really good, especially SAM JONES III in his first filmed movie, (he also plays Pete Ross in TV-series SMALLVILLE), he really delivers with true intensity and holds the lead in a strong way for such newcomer.
Not as many rappers in the various roles as you'd often get with hood-movies, there's only 3 that I can recall with NELLY having the biggest role of them (but not the biggest role of course, as its held by SAM JONES III and DEAN WINTERS).
Yes DEAN WINTERS also deliver a solid lead as a pretty sleazy record executive, Winters also gets accompanied by fellow OZ-inmate JD WILLIAMS.
I don't want to give away the story because it's the kind with a lot of twists in it, but basically it's about a teenager rap-fan who gets caught up in a very dangerous situation.
That's all you need to know really, it's definitely worth both your time and your money.
I really like this movie!

Heather Hunter (Double H) Fans Check it Out I really enjoyed this movie. It is as someone already mentioned, a good suspense-actioner. It is a dark story, and kinda violent, but very well done. The real stars of the movie are Dean Winters (Law & Order SVU), Sam Jones III (who was remarkable in Zig Zag with Natasha Lyonne) and, especially, Zoe Saldana, who plays a tough, convincing heroine.
And, Heather Hunter is divine in a small role as Lucinda. Give this girl more acting opportunties! Submitted by Pete (Keokuk, IA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Snipes film
$10.49 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, who went on to become a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from ...

$21.49 Director Douglas Sirk's (under the name Detlef Sierck) LA HABANERA became more than a star vehicle for promising actress Zarah Leander, as he created a moody, musical melodrama that speaks volumes about the politics of colonialism. The lovely Astree (Zarah Leander) leaves Sweden for the warm Caribbean and marriage to wealthy Puerto Rican businessman Don Pedro de Avila (Ferdinand Marian). Years later, when the love has disappeared from Astree's marriage, her ex-lover Dr. Sven Nagel (Karl Martell) suddenly reappears in her life, on a mission to cure a deadly tropical disease. When Astree's son becomes ill with the disease, Sven must try to find a cure, while avoiding the jealous Don Pedro's wrath. Ultimately, Astree must choose between the love she left behind, and the power and control exercised over her by Don Pedro.
Legendary director Douglas Silk's 1937 film is a lushly poetic and boldly modern music drama decades ahead of its time. Working at Germany's famed ...

$10.19 Japanese director Kenji Sonoda lends a youthful, sociopolitical spin to the wellworn yakuza genre with a hardhitting action film based on Kunio Hikita's bestselling novel KYOUKI NO SAKURA (roughly translated as MADNESS IN BLOOM). Kickboxer Yosuke Kubozuka stars as Yamaguchi Susumu, leader of a teenage street gang bent on fighting local crime through vigilante justice and a fierce devotion to traditional Japanese values. Yamaguchi's brand of ultraviolent nationalism earns the respect of likeminded yakuza boss Aota Shuzo (Yoshio Harada), who takes the youngster under his tutelage and showers him with the wealth and privilege endemic ...
