As the composer behind entrance themes for the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, formerly the World Wrestling Federation) for more than two decades, Jim Johnston came a long way from the days of Hulk Hogan's "Real American." In 2004, the WWE released THEMEADDICT, a compilation of Johnston's theme songs that traffics in a contemporary alt-rock/hip-hop vibe guaranteed to connect with a young audience.
Motorhead serves as the elder statesmen on this collection with "Line in the Sand," a song that gives wrestling star Evolution a sinister leg up, thanks to a combination of Lemmy's growl and some sinewy guitar playing. Although there are other metal-tinged tunes, the mix offers a surprisingly dynamic selection of musical styles. "Chavito Ardiente" is a crisp bit of mariachi-inflected pop used by Chavo Guerrero. John Cena even goes as far as to incorporate a sample of Big Daddy Kane's "Any Type of Way" amidst the crisp flow of "Untouchables." Leavening the mood is Gail Kim's lush dance theme "International Woman." For those craving a visual element, a bonus DVD, featuring numerous videos, is included.
This includes a bonus DVD.
