(2 Customer Reviews)
Walter Egan's big hit, "Magnet & Steel," was issued on his Not Shy album in 1978, his sophomore effort. It was the only chart score he ever had. That said, this two-fer reissue of Egan's first two offerings is a solid chapter in the California pop/rock canon of the 1970s. History is kind in its view here, because Egan's own songwriting is top-notch, and having Lindsey Buckingham as a producer -- with backing vocals from Stevie Nicks on both albums -- couldn't hurt either, since this was Mac's prime era. These are solid outings, the groove quotient is high, the vibes are warm and sunny, and the attitude is perfect -- with a fine balance between sweetness and swagger. Other standouts include "She's So Tough," "Surfin' & Drivin'" (with Dean Torrence from Jan & Dean), and "When I Get My Wheels." ~ Thom Jurek
Albums 1 and 2 by the fresh faced Walter. Includes the US 'Top Ten' hit 'Magnet & Steel' and two other chart singles from 1977 & 1978. Both albums were co-produced by Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and for the first album by his partner Stevie Nicks. Both Fleetwood Mac members are heavily featured on both albums along with Mick Fleetwood and guests such as Dean Torrance of Jan & Dean fame. Acadia. 2004. | Fundamental Roll/Not Shy Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) The Good Old Days The mid to late 1970s were my high school years, and they were a perfect time. Music was broad, varied and excellent. The radio dial lit up with exciting choices, and every week another great album came out.
After hearing 'Magnet And Steel' on the radio, when I cam across that album cover - just the face, barely emerging from a dark background, I took a chance on the rest of the record.
Good decision. From the opening riff of "Sweet South Breeze" through the final fade of "Hot Summer Night", the record is consistently superb. Mostly up-beat and up-tempo, sounding more than anything like an update to the Beach Boys vision of California, and liberally sprinkled with vocal and production flourishes from Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, this record makes a statement, captures a moment in time, and always transports me back to that day in the record shop. Welcomed Reissue! Walter Egan's first two and arguably best albums packaged together on one CD. If you're a fan of Buckingham & Nicks era Fleetwood Mac, you'll likely love this one, since Lindsey and Stevie are all over both albums. All in all it sounds better than ever and the booklet features liner notes from both albums. If you enjoyed "Magnet And Steel", pick this CD up, because you'll love the rest. No home should be without at least one copy of TUSK. Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus of 1979 is considered by some to be their greatest work. And while you are probably familiar with the hits, you may not realize that this recording is full of gems like Christine McVie's gorgeous "Brown Eyes" and Lindsey Buckingham's rousing and infectious "I Know I'm Not Wrong." Of course, even the Nikei ...

| | Mushroom Glazed Popems CDs (2004)
Fundamental Roll/Not Shy songs
$13.69 Glazed Popems is a specially priced double CD of instrumental jams featuring one disc ("London") that was inspired by late-'60s psychedelia and acid folk (e.g., the Incredible String Band) and one disc ("Oakland") with a funkier fusion and progressive rock sound. In addition to references to the Beatles, Bert Jansch, Led Zeppelin, and the site of a major '60s music festival ("Isle of Wight"), the song titles on the "London" disc display a playful sense of humor that is reflected in the band's performances (although the best title, "Just Because Nobody Understands You, That Doesn't Mean You're an Artist," corresponds to the weakest track on the disc). The musicianship is generally impressive, including standout work by guitarist Erik Pearson, most notably his soloing on "Pink Island" and interplay with pianist Brian Felix on "You and I Have Memories, Longer Than the Road That Stretches Out Ahead." The musicianship is equally impressive on the second disc, with standouts including saxophonist and woodwind player Ralph Carney. The group settles into a smooth, relaxing quiet storm groove on "Tonite Let's ...
