The Tibetan Buddhist meditative technique called Medicine Buddha practice invokes healing through visualization and mantra. The two long tracks on Jonathan Goldman's MEDICINE BUDDHA serve as powerful aids to this ancient method of physical and spiritual healing.
The first selection, "Medicine Buddha Suite," layers chant, deep overtone singing and singing bowls. After about 10 minutes of this very grounding chorale, a danceable middle section emerges, offering a novel melding of Tibetan chant with Native American percussion and flute, before going back to the relatively sedate sound of the beginning. The second selection, "Heart of Wisdom Sutra" pairs a classic Buddhist mantra with celestial vocal harmonies. Throughout the 60-plus minutes of music on this album, Goldman both honors the traditional sounds of Tibetan chant and follows his muse to unexpected places. The result is a deeply felt and embracing soundtrack for meditation, ritual, or movement. | | Art Garfunkel Everything Waits To Be Noticed CD (2002)
Medicine Buddha CD music
$22.09 Making his technical debut as a songwriter (technical in that his prose poems serve as a lyric source on several tracks), Art Garfunkel takes top billing in what actually qualifies as a collaboration with two other singer/songwriters, Nashville's Buddy Mondlock and L.A.-based Maia Sharp; producer/songwriter Billy Mann plays an essential creative role as well. For all the diverse input, this remains a Garfunkel project at heart. His airy, delicate singing, remarkably identical ...

$10.35 | | Best Of Kitaro Volume 2 CD (1999)
Medicine Buddha album
$13.19 The first 25,000 units of BEST OF KITARO VOLUME 2 will be available in a limited-edition that includes the bonus disc THE SOONG SISTERS.
Choosing a best-of collection for Kitaro must be a difficult task. Everything he touches turns to gold. Best of Kitaro, Vol. 2 is a collection of pieces from his releases of 1988 through 1998. The selected compositions are typical of this man's techniques and styles. While there is only one unfortunate track with vocals (by the ever irritating Jon Anderson), all of the performances are lyrical. Kitaro's gentle touch and smooth sound design give the pieces special flair. Each piece has its own panache, charm, and grace. This is an excellent starting point for any Kitaro collection. As an added bonus, it includes The Soong Sisters, a soundtrack to the film of the same name. ~ Jim Brenholts
For over a quarter century, Japan's Kitaro has been an internationally recognized icon and globally acclaimed composer and musician. Influenced early on by American rock and R&B, Kitaro began experimenting with synthesizers and a rainbow of unconventional sounds in the mid-'70s. His pioneering fusion of electronic artistry, traditional Japanese forms, and pop-inflected Western idioms created a lush, harmonic, and poetic sound that won the now legendary artist a huge international following. 1980's Volume 1 in the revered Silk Road series is considered an all-time masterpiece, with ...
| | Yatri Crystal Spirit CD (1996)
Medicine Buddha CD music
$16.45 There is music that sounds crystalline, then there is crystal music, played on a "glass armonica" originally designed by Benjamin Franklin. The instrument looks like several crystal disks stacked and rotated along a central core. Yatri coaxes extended meditational lines from the disks using her wet fingers (much like playing a crystal wine glass) or alcohol-soaked cotton gloves. The disks sing and wail, they sob and resonate. Harmonics then spring to life on their own. Occasionally, disks are struck with a rubber mallet, reminding me of the emptiness of Zen, the holiness of a Tibetan monastery, or the giddiness of a burbling brook. The sounds are sharp at times, but listening is an invigorating and relaxing experience. Subtle synth orchestrations (skillfully done from the classically trained Yatri, a.k.a. Kathryn Root) and bird songs provide angelic settings for this ethereal instrument. If you like the sound of the austere Tibetan bells, you will probably resonate to this album and its melodic possibilities. In a word, "heavenly." ~ Carol Wright
