This digitally remastered Japanese limited edition of DISPOSABLE comes packaged in a miniaturized LP-style slipcase.
Plenty of psychedelic groups of the late '60s embraced a sunny outlook of peace, flowers, and consciousness expansion, but some took a harder line on upending the straight society they sought to replace, and like their spiritual brethren the MC5, the Deviants (under the first-among-equals leadership of writer Mick Farren) saw their music as a vehicle for a Total Assault On The Culture. The only trouble with this was the Deviants' ideas were often a lot more exciting than their music, and while they created a sonic approximation of the rage and defiance behind the Freak Culture on their debut album, Ptooff!, their second LP, Disposable, lacks focus or direction and sounds like the work of addled would-be revolutionaries who aren't sure jut what they're fighting against this morning. Farren has claimed that he and his bandmates were flying on speed during most of the recording of Disposable, but there isn't much energy (artificial or otherwise) in these performances, and many of the tunes collapse into meandering jams performed by musicians who lack the chops or focus to make them into anything more. There are a few exceptions -- a wacky mutation of "Surfing Bird" and "Wipe Out" called "Pappa-Oo-Mao-Mao," the defiant "Slum Lord," and "Somewhere to Go," the only extended jam on the LP that manages to actually find a groove and move. But "Normality Jam" feels at least twice as long as its 4:24 running time, "Let's Loot the Supermarket" appears to have been recorded by people who lack the ambition to put on their shoes, let alone liberate needed supplies, and short tracks like "Sparrows and Wires" and "Sidney B. Goode" play like comic sketches without punch lines. Disposable is fascinating as a document of the U.K.'s anarchist hippie scene and where it went both right and wrong, but as entertainment, you're a lot better off listening to Ptooff!. Or looting a supermarket. ~ Mark Deming

Disposable album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin Hawkins of the Darkness all elbow each other for space here, creating cheerful genre-bending where Sweet gives way to the Scissor Sisters, and it's never, ever necessary for a listener to recognize ...

| | Bob Fetherolf Rock & Roll Survivors CD (2008)
Disposable songs
$8.49 If your looking for something fresh and unique, some new and exciting music; here it is! This is an incredible collection of new, eclectic Rock and Roll, with other musical elements such as blues, jazz, folk, country and more! Early on, I decided to do my own thing regardless of what major record companies expected (over 500,000 paid downloads and album CD sales since 2001). This album is auto-biographical in the sense that it expresses much of my struggles and life experiences as a kid growing up (Midnight Avenue, In Your Darkest Hour) and the challenges of pursuing music against all odds (R+R Survivors). The song "All Through the Night" was the soundtrack to a "Rock and Roll Pirate Video" that was viewed by over 200 million households throughout Europe and America. This album is reminiscent of styles of music more or less of an era gone by I suppose, “but what an era”! World class musicians provided much inspiration and music on this album. Members of the Doobie Brothers (Chet McCracken-drums and the late Cornelius Bumpus-sax, as well as members of the Steely Dan, George Benson band, America, Michael Jackson band, Doug Deringer, Steffen Presley, Greg Stevens and others), performed with me on the album - and in my band as well. Although seemingly Rock in nature, the album has an eclectic side with progressive, ...
