| | Axel Rudi Pell Knights Live CDs (2002)
Tattooed Heart
$11.65 Why is it that when Axel Rudi Pell plays live, his act is more reminiscent of Ronnie James Dio with an amazing guitar player than it is the generic brand of heavy metal he is usually associated with? Knights Live, despite it's sometimes ridiculous stage banter -- that recalls the excesses of Ted Nugent's vocalist Derek St. Holmes in the 1970s -- offers a completely unadorned, unvarnished concert recording. This thing kicks ass. Forget Yngwie, Pell's brand of tough, overdriven , balls-out rock is exactly what the heavy genre needs infused into its veins. There is no pose, no image, no sword-and-sorcery nonsense -- despite the title and the cover -- to make it precious. Instead, there is nothing but the desire to offer a no-net performance of tracks from all of his solo albums to create an atmosphere of seeming danger and amicable hedonism. Pell can play; he is more than a virtuoso, he is an encyclopedia of hard rock guitar history, and his expression of it is tasteful and gutsy. This set is a fantastic introduction ...

| | Paris Reunion Band French Cooking CD (1987)
Tattooed Heart
$8.79 Jazz journalist Mike Hennessey was responsible for putting together the Paris Reunion Band, a group of jazz all-stars who spent at least part of their careers based in Paris. Their debut album, French Cooking, was a studio date recorded in the summer of 1985, around the time of their first European tour. The band includes saxophonists Johnny Griffin and Nathan Davis, trumpeters Woody Shaw and Dizzy Reece, trombonist Slide Hampton, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Jimmy Woode, and drummer Billy Brooks. Most of the musicians made names for themselves while living in their U.S. homeland (except for Reece, a Jamaica native). Nathan Davis is probably the least familiar name in the front line, because he spent a long period in Paris (1962-1969) following his discharge from the U.S. Army, and eventually returned to his homeland to become a jazz educator. He is a triple threat on tenor and soprano saxes as well as flute. Each member of the brass and reed sections contributed a cooking original to the date, while the solos and ensemble work are consistently inspired. Though the personnel changed ...
| | Johnny Cash CD (2003)
Tattooed Heart
$6.35 Even before his passing in 2003, there was already an enormous amount of Johnny Cash compilations in circulation, and the amount of new releases only intensified afterward. Case in point, the 2005 double-disc set Johnny Cash Collection. The 25-track audio portion is quite a dandy, as quite a few early Cash classics are represented, including "I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Big River," "Hey Porter," and "Get Rhythm." It is this early era of Cash's recording career that many longtime fans point to as his finest, as "the Man in Black" played a major part in popularizing rockabilly -- a style that managed to combine both country and rock & ...
| | Canaan Serious CD (2006)
Tattooed Heart
$18.99 THE BEGINNINGFormed nearly three years ago, Canaan is already a musical force in Central Florida. They are a Rock and Soul talent powerhouse of musicality and creativity. The band writes most of their songs together or individually by the talented members. Their motivation and drive, the many instruments they play and the range of their talent enables the group to thrill and inspire people of all ages.Three individually accomplished musicians, three magnetic personalities and three people of consummate faith have come together – some would say have been “brought together” – and they are on a mission. Their mission is to let people know that God loves them JUST AS THEY ARE. Canaan’s universal and all-encompassing message dispels the oxymoronic notion that people of faith would exclude others of faith when we are all made in God’s image. Fancy words, a heady mission, but they are SERIOUS and they are doing it!The Band consists of Melanie, Dave Lee and James.Melanie is a talented dynamo of a gospel performer/singer/songwriter, well known throughout Florida. Mel sings with a power and glow that turns her songs into a sermon and autobiography all at once. Her range and motivation make her an absolute FORCE that lifts and moves an audience. She, alone, IS a concert and a church service all at once. Dave Lee ably provides vocals as well as accompanying on the many and various instruments he plays; piano, bass, guitar, percussion, saxophone and most other instruments as well! As a Pentecostal prodigy, Dave brings his long national experience, energy, faith and talent to Canaan. As a singer, songwriter and musician, Dave brings a depth, power and range to the group, which is pivotal to their success. James sings in his dramatic high tenor and in close harmony with Dave and Melanie, take the ...
