| | Peter Bardens Big Sky CD - Import Peter Bardens Discography of CDs
Keyboardist Pete Bardens continued his string of largely instrumental new age and atmospheric rock albums with 1994's Big Sky. The Camel alumnus' previous album, 1993's Further Than You Know, was a little heavier on the vocals, so this is a bit more like his superb Seen One Earth from 1987 and Speed of Light from 1988. Unfortunately, the songs aren't quite as strong here. Longtime vocalist Neil Lockwood, guitarist Neale Heywood, and drummer Jethro DeFries are still along for the Big Sky flight, and Fleetwood Mac drummer and longtime Bardens friend Mick Fleetwood makes another guest appearance. The lilting, lazy (in a good way) "China Blue" is relaxing. Bardens' more eclectic influences are evident on "Puerto Rico" due to its percussion- and horn-like keyboard riffs. "Big Sky" is one of Bardens' trademark hypnotic, flowing pieces. The lively instrumental "Gunblasters" is the best song here; the artist's repetitively catchy keyboard lick and Heywood's rhythm guitar chords and slicing solo are the highlights. "A Brave New World" starts out slow, smooth, and watery before exploding and receding back to a gentle ending. Bardens' former Camel bandmate Andy Latimer contributes backing vocals to "On a Roll," a percussion-heavy bit of light Caribbean funk. Bardens' short solo piano piece "Scarletti" wraps up Big Sky. ~ Bret Adams
Big Sky was originally released in 1994 on the HTD label and is a collection of material old & new. In addition, this album carries two bonus tracks written exclusively for the Japanese market only - 'The Yuki Dance' & 'Bump N Grind'. Talking Elephant. 2004. Big Sky CD music
$39.85 When EMI signed the teenage prodigy Kate Bush, the label claimed that in order to nurture her talent, it wouldn't release her first album until she had a few years to grow up. As a result, her debut, THE KICK INSIDE, didn't see daylight for three years. On the other hand, her second album, LIONHEART, was rush-released only nine months after the success of its predecessor. Fortunately, Kate still had some leftover songs from the debut session, helping make her sophomore ...

Big Sky songs
$40.45 Kate Bush was never the most prolific of artists; this 1993 album and its attendant singles formed her complete '90s output. Her recordings are carefully conceived, densely orchestrated, and finely tuned, and THE RED SHOES is no exception. Though spontaneity may not be her strong suit, her records are never dull or self-indulgent.
Among Kate Bush's most relaxed recordings, THE RED SHOES features a number of guest appearances, notably Eric Clapton, Nigel Kennedy, and Jeff Beck. Highlights include the appropriately bouncy "Rubberband ...

| | Arlo Guthrie One Night CD (1978) Reissued
Big Sky songs
$14.29 Arlo teamed up with Shenandoah, a local band in the Berkshire mountain region of Massachusetts in the Fall of 1976. They toured together for about a decade. "One Night" is their debut recording. "One Night" was actually recorded over many nights as the band went from place to place wherever their touring schedule took them. There is no fixing things up in the studio on this recording - It's all as it happened, when it happened. With David Grover, Terry A La Berry, Dan Velika, Steve and Carol Ide, Arlo romps through some of the funniest nights ever recorded - At least as far as they were concerned. You can hear them trying to continue as things get stranger and stranger in "The Story of Reuben Clamzo And His Strange Daughter in the Key of A." With versatile musicianship and great vocal harmonies Shenandoah became a fixture of Arlo's touring to the delight of crowds everywhere. Even today 25 years later, they remain close friends and have recently toured together again. Many of these same musicians are on almost all of Arlo's later recordings up to the present day - Even though Shenandoah disbanded decades ago. Another band assumed the same name afterwards - No relation there.
A 1978 live album recorded with the group Shenandoah (not the country-pop band of the '80s and '90s but a strange conglomeration of bluegrass, rock, and jazz players), One Night is a quirky blend of traditional folk songs and unusual covers. The covers range from a bluegrassy take on the Beatles' "I've Just Seen a Face" (quite nice) to the old Elvis (by way of Furry Lewis) hit "One Night" (not at all successful, since Arlo Guthrie has never been known for his soulfulness). The excellent stretch of traditional tunes at the end of side one is the musical highlight of the album, moving from the cowboy standard "Buffalo Skinners" to the early jazz stylings of the instrumental "St. Louis Tickle." Almost all of side two is filled up with one of Guthrie's signature ...
| | Lackawanna Blues CD (2005) Original Soundtrack
Big Sky album
$13.99 The soundtrack companion to an HBO film directed by George C. Wolf and based on Ruben Santiago-Hudson's acclaimed one man show (Santiago-Hudson wrote the screenplay adaptation and appears in the film) about a black youth coming of age in upstate New York in the early 1960s, Lackawanna Blues mixes new material by Mos Def, Robert Bradley and Macy Gray (all of whom have roles in the film) with classic blues, gospel and R&B from the likes of Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, J.J. Jackson and others. Mos Def does his throwback jump blues routine on the set opener, the classic "Caldonia," and "Destination Love," while Bradley adds "Dark Road," "Something Inside Me" and a striking moody duet with Gray on his "Down on Me." The highlights of the set, though, are the vintage tracks from Jimmy Scott (the impeccably orchestrated "If I Ever Lost You" from 1960), Tommy Tucker (an easy grooving "High Heel Sneakers" from 1963), and folk virtuoso Etta Baker, whose acoustic guitar work on her signature "One ...
| | Oasis Heathen Chemistry CD (2002) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Big Sky CD music
$34.19 Oasis has always been a band that favored the "big" gestures of rock stardom. Their fifth studio album, HEATHEN CHEMISTRY, doesn't change this stance, but what it does do is hone the band's best qualities to an impossible-to-resist machine-like precision, all gleaming chrome and super-high gloss finish. The basics are all here: the snarling, swaggering ...
