The film features a stellar supporting turn by Joe Pesci as La Motta's brother, Joey. With RAGING BULL, Martin Scorsese's personal approach to filmmaking is taken to a whole new level. Shooting in a crisp black and white, Scorsese tells the story of middleweight boxer Jake La Motta, played with incredible intensity by Oscar winner Robert De Niro. As La Motta rises through the ranks to earn his first shot at the middleweight crown, he falls in love with Vickie (Cathy Moriarty), a gorgeous girl from his Bronx neighborhood. Jake's inability to express his feelings pours out in the ring and eventually takes over his life in his dealings with his brother, Joey (a brilliant Joe Pesci). Irrational jealousy over Vickie, as well as an insatiable appetite, sends him into a downward spiral that costs him his title, his wife, and his relationship with Joey. As the out-of-control fighter, De Niro delivers one of the screen's most unforgettable performances. Pesci is just as intense as Joey, who finally realizes that he is unable to tame his animalistic brother. Cinematographer Michael Chapman shoots the film with a stylish flair that fills the boxing scenes with boundless energy and adds immediacy to the arguments that erupt whenever Jake is outside the ring. Simply put, RAGING BULL is one of American cinema's masterworks. Filmed on location in New York City.

Robert De Niro gained 50 pounds and spent hours learning how to box in order to play Jake La Motta. It was the beginning of a trend among American actors of excessive preparation for film roles. Raging Bull Movie Review  ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC
What can really be said about this classic film which was voted by many critics as the greatest film of the 80's. Scorsese once again proves why he is one of the greatest directors of our time. De Niro also shows why he is one of the greatest actors of our time. Raging Bull is a film which absolutelty cannot be described by words. The only word which I think can describe this film would be "PERFECT". Because that is exactly what this film is. It combines amazing and poetic fight sequences with superb and masterful acting. What amazes me the most is how De Niro had to gain all that weight so he could fit the role for the end of the film. That shows how dedicated and motivated De Niro is as an actor and his commitments and loyalties towards the brilliant Scorsese. This film includes elements of poetry, violence, guilt, sex, torment, anger, jealously, rage and determination which all lead to an amazing story of betrayal, redemption and psychotic behaviour. I once said that Scorsese’s greatest film is Taxi Driver. I would like to take that back, because I truly believe Raging Bull is his greatest film and De Niro delivers the greatest performance of his magnificent carrier as well. You must watch this classic and epic film, as it is voted by the American Film Institute as the 4th greatest film of all time. It is the second greatest film of all time in my opinion!!!

Joe Pesci should have gotten an Oscar for this movie. Oh yeah, DeNiro did a great job as well.

The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares to leave for college the next day, and Laurie (Cindy Williams), his girlfriend, is upset by his impending departure. Laurie's brother, Curt (Richard Dreyfuss), the class intellectual, is also slated for college, but he has serious doubts about his future. Also included here are the hopeless nerd (Charles Martin Smith) and the eternally cool drag racer, John (Paul LeMat), who feels pressure to live up to his reputation. A nostalgic feeling is evoked in seeing the teenagers cruising in their hot rods, eating at Mel's Diner, and listening to Wolfman Jack spin the latest hits, with the camera jumping from character to character as they each enjoy--or fret over--their last moments of summer freedom.
