It appears that time has made Clarke and Bell wiser and more reflective, since the songs on NIGHTBIRD actually seem stronger and more resonant than Erasure's earlier work, radiating honesty and authenticity even on first listen. "Breathe," for example, with a mid-tempo verse groove building to a lush, expansive chorus, is quite beautiful, and the deeply romantic "Let's Take One More Rocket to the Moon" is enough to make even the hardest hearts flutter. Erasure remains leagues better than the dozens of synth-pop acts they've inspired, and NIGHTBIRD--with its combination of old-school sound and compelling latter-day songwriting--finds the band better than ever.
One of the more high-profile synth-pop bands of the 1980s, Erasure continued recording into the following decades, and was able to experience the '80s revival of the 2000s firsthand. NIGHTBIRD (2005) bears all the characteristics of Erasure's classic sound--drum-machine beats, highly processed keyboards, and vocalist Andy Bell's heartfelt croon. Most importantly, Bell and synth master/sound architect Vince Clarke have maintained their keen sense of pop songcraft, as evidenced by the 11 catchy, solidly built tunes that fill the album.
Erasure: Andy Bell , Vince Clarke.

The new Erasure cd is awsome! Just like a trip back to the bar days of the 80's. Great sound and a fun cd! Submitted by Tiki Bob (Fort Myers Beach, Fl, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great new album As opposed to some review I read on this CD, there are no weak tracks on this 11 track CD. Best album in a very long time. "I Bet your mad at Me" & "Sweet Surrender" are the last two tracks & my favorites Submitted by mylstar (Westbury, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
SYNTH AND SEQUINS! Let me say upfront, that I have never been a full on Erasure fan. I owned only one C.D, and that was "The Circus".
However, with just one listening to this C.D "Nighbird", I think I am hooked forever!!
Every track is just amazing, and will have you singing along, day in and day out!
If there was ever a perfect C.D, this one has definately got to be it!
If you love keyboards, and catchy, memorable tunes, I suggest you add this to your collection.
You will not regret it!! Submitted by galaxy472 (Sydney, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
night love Very mature and beautiful sounds and lyrics here. The whole cd is excellent, especially the first half. This would have been a nice cohesive album, if not for the inclusion of the eigth track, All This Time. This is corny pop music without their usual gentle sounds. They might have had a breakdown after using all their creative energy on the first seven tracks! Submitted by chirpy (Encino, Ca, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Enjoy it!! Submitted by jnazur (¨Argentine¨) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Tapestry Revisited: A Tribute To Carole King CD (1995)
Nightbird album
$9.29 What better way to hone in on Carole King's songwriting mastery than to get perfomers and songwriters of all ages, sounds and sizes to tackle her timeless material. TAPESTRY REVISITED brings together Rod Stewart with Amy Grant, Richard Marx with the Bee Gees, Blessid Union Of Souls with Faith Hill; and all tap into the melodic finesse and finely crafted lyrics that elevated Carole King into the songwriters' pantheon.
TAPESTRY REVISITED reminds us how long King's songs have influenced her peers. The Bee Gees' masterful glide through "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" refreshes the memory of King's emergence into the pop world as a member of the Brill Building songwriting pack. Richard Marx's loving rendition of "Beautiful" illustrates the mark King left on the new generation of writers, and Eternal's luxurious version of "I Feel The Earth Move" shows that King's music is truly timeless and capable of inspiring generations of future songsmiths.
Carole King's 1971 album Tapestry was one of the best-selling LPs of the early '70s and has had a lasting influence on pop singer/songwriters ever since. The idea of this tribute album was to re-create the album track-for-track using other artists. Since King had begun her career as a songwriter, with songs such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" hitting for other artists before turning up on Tapestry, it was an appropriate concept. Though each artist was asked to submit a finished track, there was some musical continuity in that several tracks -- "You've Got a Friend," by BeBe & CeCe Winans, featuring Aretha Franklin, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?," by the Bee Gees, and "Smackwater Jack," by the Manhattan Transfer -- were produced by Arif Mardin, and a

| | Noel Redding Experience Sessions CD (2004)
Nightbird CD music
$11.89 Well, let's be honest here. Noel Redding's position in rock history is cemented by virtue of having been the bass player for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. But the fact is that he was not actually a bass player, but a converted guitar player who was hired, at least in part, because Jimi liked his hair! By the time of Electric Ladyland, Redding was feeling creatively frustrated in the group, which basically led to the breakup of the Experience. He did, however, get two of his songs recorded by the Experience: "She's So Fine" on Axis: Bold As Love and "Little Miss Strange" on Electric Ladyland. Both are pleasant enough little tunes, but they do pale in comparison to Hendrix's songwriting abilities. Redding's later bands, Fat Mattress and the Noel Redding Band, were commercial duds with little to recommend them. So The Experience Sessions has been offered up by Experience Hendrix to fill out Noel's legacy. Unfortunately, there isn't really much to fill out. When you take out the live version of "Red House" by the Experience and the two cuts each of "She's So Fine" and "Little Miss Strange" (the album version and an alternate for both), you're left with only seven tracks, and two of those are alternates of the same tune. That's not much of a legacy. "There Ain't Nothing Wrong" has been available for years in bootleg circles, the difference here being cleaner sound and a vocal track that had never been heard because Noel cut the vocals for it in 1988! The best tunes here are nice psychedelic pop ditties much like "Little Miss Strange": "Walking Through the Garden," "Dream," and "Little, Little Girl," all of which demonstrate the fact that Noel Redding was not a particularly gifted lyricist. There are some nice touches, like the phased vocals on "Little, Little Girl" or Jimi's bass playing on "Dream," but they aren't especially remarkable. "How Can I Live" sounds unfinished, lacking a bass track, and "Noel's Tune" is a pretty loose jam, redeemed only by Jimi's soloing. The alternate version doesn't even have Hendrix, and suffers in comparison. The alternate take of "She's So Fine" is quite interesting stripped of both the lead and backing vocals, but the alternate of "Little Miss Strange" is rendered pretty uninteresting by removing all the stuff Jimi added, primarily the guitar leads. The live version of "Red House" from 1968 is nice, featuring Noel on rhythm guitar instead of bass, but again, does little to enhance Redding's legacy. ...
