5 stars Very Accurate Biblical Movie
This movie starts out a little slow but other than that, it tells the true story of Abraham, his wife Sarah, and their decendants. Abraham follows God's instructions by leaving his father's house and settling into antoher part of the country. In doing so, Abraham is blessed for his obedience. Abraham runs into trouble along the way but his faith in God keeps him going. Those who blessed Abraham are blessed and those who cursed him are cursed. I highly recommend this movie. After viewing this movie you must purchase the movie entitled: Jacob, who's Abraham's grandson. Then purchase the movie entitled: Joseph, who's Jacob's son. Then purchase the movie entitled: The Story of Ruth, who's King David's great-great-grandmother. Then purchase the movie entitled: David and Bathsheeba. Then purchase Solomon and Sheba (played by Yul B.) because King Solomon is King David and Bathsheeba's son. Then somewhere between the movies read the Bible. All of these movies have a Biblical connection and they're Bible accurate.

5 stars Abraham is true biblical form
It is a long but excellent movie, but so is Ben Hur. It is very biblical in nature and accuracy in content.

5 stars Excellent portrayal
The whole family enjoyed this and it had to be viewed several times before returning it to Netflix. I saw it twice and enjoyed it both times. Acting was very professional in it's quality. Biblically it was accurate and the parts that were not in the Bible were certainly quite reasonable and thought provoking.

3 stars Get the DVD!
I saw "Abraham" when it was first shown on the TNT network in '94. When I bought the VHS copy one year ago I was so disapointed that it had been cut to 150 minutes. However, this week I found the DVD at a local store and was so pleased to see this copy had been restored to it's original 187 minutes. I bought it immediately. This production is very accurate in keeping to scripture and I find it very inspirational. The beginning of God's nation Israel. I highly recommend this movie and suggest the DVD.

5 stars Great!
I teach 6th grade at a middle school. The movie helps to show the way of life in Mesopotamia and show how Abraham's moves from being a man raised in a time of multiple-gods to one God. The acting was good.

An adaptation of the legendary biblical tale, director Bruce Beresford's film stars Richard Gere as King David, favorite of the God of Israel. Although only a shepherd boy, David is anointed as heir to the throne of Israel by Samuel (Dennis Quilley), who is disgusted with the weakness of Saul (Edward Woodward). When David brings the protracted war with the Philistines to an end by defeating their champion Goliath (George Eastman) in battle, he is celebrated by his people but must flee the country to avoid being killed by Saul, whose jealousy he has aroused. When Saul and his sons finally die in battle, David assumes the throne--but not without a sense that it is covered in blood. As time passes, he finds himself in vicious battles with neighboring tribes to ensure the survival of the Israelites. Despite David's many achievements, the exercise of power has a corrupting influence on the patriarch, and ultimately, even he is no longer favored by his God. Donald McAlpine's photography is superb, as is Beresford's direction. Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles

The sixth entry in Turner's Bible Collection, this video will thrill Christians with its portrayal of DAVID, the young shepherd who would go on to defend a nation. Mirroring FORREST GUMP and the films of Hal Ashby, David is a simple man who rises to greatness as he is chosen to be the ruler of Israel. In the process, he defends his people by slaying a giant and becoming a military legend. Nathaniel Parker plays the title character in this television movie of epic scope. An action and adventure-filled epic about a distinguished military leader whose reign was touched by great scandal, shocking betrayals and rousing victories, David stars Leonard Nimoy and Jonathan Pryce.

In THE CONTENDER, the sudden death of the vice president of the United States forces U.S. president Jackson Evans (Jeff Bridges) to pick a replacement. He decides against picking the popular governor of Virginia, Jack Hathaway (William Petersen), and instead makes the radical choice of Senator Laine Hanson (Joan Allen) to become the nation's first female veep. Governor Hathaway's political friends include Shelly Runyon (Gary Oldman), a powerful congressman who will oversee Hanson's confirmation. Runyon digs into Hanson's personal life and finds evidence that in college, Hanson participated in an alcohol-fueled orgy as part of a sorority initiation. When faced with this scandal, Hanson refuses to respond to the attacks, causing a political crisis leading to further shocking revelations. Former film critic Rod Lurie's second film (after the thriller DETERRENCE) is a tense potboiler with issues ripped from modern headlines, including the nature of political ideals and the national curiosity with leaders' sex lives. Joan Allen gives another in a long line of stunning performances as the tough, idealistic Laine Hanson, who stands up for what she believes in no matter what the cost. THE CONTENDER also features strong supporting performances from Bridges and Oldman, as well as a realistic look at the high-pressure game of insider politics. Jeff Bridges, Gary Oldman, Christian Slater, Joan Allen, William Petersen, Philip Baker Hall - Dir:Rod Lurie When the truth becomes a weapon, power comes at a stunning price. Gary Oldman, Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges and Christian Slater deliver electrifying performances in this controversial, suspenseful and critically-acclaimed thriller that Ebert & Roeper and the Movies call "exciting and unusually intelligent, two very enthusiastic thumbs up!" Sometimes you can assassinate a leader without firing a shot.
