Black & White; Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English This classic psychological thriller from Otto Preminger (BONJOUR TRISTESSE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM) stars Carol Lynley as Ann Lake, a single mom who has just moved to London with her young daughter, Bunny. When she arrives to pick Bunny up from nursery school, she finds that her daughter has vanished without a trace. All record of her daughter's existence has been erased, and the police are soon convinced that Bunny was a figment of her mother's feminine imagination. Ann's brother corroborates this hypothesis, and soon the frantic mother is left to her own devices in the search for a daughter in whose existence only she believes. Laurence Olivier turns in a stellar performance as the police chief, and the supporting cast includes Noel Coward (THE ITALIAN JOB) and Keir Dullea (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY). Moodily atmospheric in black and white, a surreal pitch is achieved in the film's depiction of the dark underbelly of London and the eccentric characters who populate it. Bunny Lake Is Missing Movie Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Absorbing, literate and evocative. This fascinating mystery has been made in the tradition of Otto Preminger's classic "Laura", that established him as a top director in the late Forties. Since it would not be fair to spoil the film by revealing much of the story and particularly the ending, let's say only that Bunny Lake is a small girl, who turns up missing in London. At least, so her mother says. "Bunny Lake is Missing" is handsome, well- acted (especially by Sir Laurence Olivier and Carol Lynley - possibly her best performance) and exciting; a slick melodrama from an exceptionally well-written screenplay by Penelope Mortimer, and a memorable music score by Paul Glass. Creamy smooth suspense with a genuinely intriguing premise. Submitted by filmfactsman (Beverly Hills, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Buy the Book I was sorely dissappointed in the movie after having read the book. The book was perfect in its set up for suspense. The movie changed the story, adding and deleting characters, changing the very essence of the book. Carol Lynley's portrayal of a distraught mother of a missing child is completely unbelievable. I hope the remake is better, but don't waste your money on this movie - buy the book and have good read. Submitted by Kathy (Loveland, CO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent thriller This is a great surprise. A really cool thriller about a woman trying to convince the police that her daughter is missing. But the facts seem to lead the police to think she is making the whole thing up. Great acting by everyone and plenty of suspense. It puts the similartly themed "The Forgotten" to shame. Bunny Lake Is Missing review
$16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel led him to ruin, ...

$9.79 Moody, atmospheric, and bordering on the surreal, this thriller was intended by legendary director John Huston (THE MALTESE FALCON, MOULIN ROUGE) to be an allegory for the repressive American government during the red scare. Though this point was ultimately missed by audiences of all political persuasions, the film nonetheless remains a masterpiece of the suspense genre. Jennifer Jones (TENDER IS THE NIGHT) stars as China Valdez, a Cuban woman whose brother is killed by the authorities; she vows revenge, and joins up with a group of revolutionaries planning to take down the corrupt government. She falls in love with Tony Fenner (John Garfield, GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT), ...
