| | Mercury Rev Secret Migration CD - Import Mercury Rev Discography of CDs
Mercury Rev excels at creating epic rock soundscapes that mix late-period Beatles melodicism, shoegazer guitars, electronics, and a quirky sensibility with sparkling sonic detail. THE SECRET MIGRATION continues that tradition. From the opening track, "Secret for a Song," which begins with a gentle electronic murmur before bursting into an expansive wash of instruments (and singer Jonathan Donahue's distinctive voice), the album gives the sense of having entered a vast, deep cavern full of swirling spirits and imaginary, whispering creatures.
The lyrical content also draws the listener into this otherworld, referencing dark forests, shimmering leaves, white horses, vast oceans, and dragonfly rides. "Black Forest (Lorelei) evokes the classic imagery of fantasy novels, while the more personal "Diamonds" describes a kind of synesthesia in which stars, leaves, eyes, and hearts are melded into a single gesture of love. "Across Yer Ocean," one of the album's highlights, has a memorable melody that feels as wide as the song's central metaphor. Throughout THE SECRET MIGRATION, Mercury Rev avoids preciousness with the credibility and force of their music, which is sonically cohesive and absorbing.
Import pressing of their 13-track album was produced by the band and long-time collaborator Dave Fridman who also worked on the bands previous 2 albums 'All Is Dream' and 'Deserter's Songs'. 'The Secret Migration' sees Mercury Rev in a somewhat lighter mood, with songs like the anthemic 'Secret for a Song' sounding immediate and forceful. If Deserter's Songs was autumn, 'All Is Dream' winter, then 'The Secret Migration' feels like spring: fresh-cheeked and infused with hopeful spirits. . V2.Rolling Stone (p.78) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "THE SECRET MIGRATION seethes with life and loveliness..." Spin (p.108) - "This is one big-sounding secret: rural psychedelic excess by upstate New York hobbits." -- Grade: B+ Mojo (Publisher) (p.92) - 4 stars out of 5 - "THE SECRET MIGRATION is a brilliant, uncompromising exploration of devotion and wonder of surrender." Secret Migration album
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and ...

| | Michael Buble Call Me Irresponsible CD (2007)
Secret Migration songs
$10.09 Michael Buble ranks among the best of the contemporary crooners working in a classic pop-vocal style, and his 2007 album, CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE, further refines his suave, smooth style. With its finger-snapping big band arrangements, the album has its share of homage to Frank and Dino, both obvious cornerstones of Buble's music. But this isn't merely a retro exercise; the tunes, the production, and the overall feel are decidedly contemporary.
Stylistically adventurous versions of songs by Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, and Willie Nelson keep things lively, while "Everything," a Buble original, is one of the album's highlights. Still, cuts like the lead-off track ("The Best Is Yet to Come") and the old chestnut "I've Got the World on a String" will give listeners looking for some elegant, back-in-the-day pizzazz exactly that.

| | Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix CD (2009)
Secret Migration CD music
$7.99 The slyly referential MOR-pop of Phoenix has, in part, staked it's effectiveness on the reclaiming of unfashionable music styles of yore. From electro-inflected country & western ditties to airy, synth-heavy soft-rock, the group's giddy embrace of all that's considered schlock--retouching the results to a fine point with crisp, modern production and a hip, young attitude--ascended them to the status of postmodern pop auteurs par excellence. WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX, the band's fourth ...

Taylor continues to change with each new album, and Bang That Bell continues the forward look of 1997's Dirty Pool. Taylor is undoubtedly blues-oriented, but his music is also fueled by bursts of jazz, R&B, ...
| | Camel Lunar Sea: An Anthology 1973-1985 CD (2001)
Secret Migration songs
$10.59 This two-disc, 28-track set gathers favorites by the jazz-influenced English progressive rock outfit Camel.
This double-CD set more or less supplants -- though in some ways it also enhances -- the 1993 compilation Echoes: The Retrospective. With a slightly longer running time and a fair difference in song content; though the same number of tracks, the overlap between the two is surprisingly limited. Gone are "Unevensong," "Breathless," "Skylines," the studio versions of "Lunar Sea" and "West Berlin," and "City Life," among other tracks -- in their place as "Stationary Traveler," "Long Goodbyes," "Slow ...
| | Ataris So Long, Astoria CD (2003)
Secret Migration album
$7.59 John Collura (guitar, background vocals); Mike Davenport (bass); Chris Knapp (drums).
Additional personnel includes: Angus Cooke (cello); James Muhawi (piano).
With an EP and several full-length albums under their collective belt, the Ataris made their bones with five years of hard work, leading up to their debut for Columbia--SO LONG, ASTORIA. Principal writer/vocalist Kris Roe drew inspiration for the album's concept from author Richard Hell's novel GO NOW, exploring his past stomping grounds with a Polaroid camera and a notebook. Recapturing the essence of past memories made excellent fodder for the songs that make up SO LONG, ASTORIA.
Written to his daughter, "The Saddest Song," is sweet and heartfelt, coming across with even more emotional impact reprised as an acoustic, hidden track at the end of the CD. Longtime fans will experience momentary deja vu as a new version of "I Won't Spend Another Night Alone" sneaks into the sequence as well (originally found on 1999's BLUE SKIES, BROKEN HEARTS). Despite the move to one of the biggest labels in the world ...

| | Ian James James,Ian Vol. 2 CD (2007)
Secret Migration songs
$6.69 Ian James is back with his second full length solo CD on Blue FX Records. Volume 2 is another sampling from Ian's mixed-genre catalogue that was written and recorded over the past two years. There are fourteen songs written in mixed genres of rock, funk, techno. hip-hop and blues. Great "Head-Trip" music, with flashes from the past (Dispute- a song that is Doors like, yet amped up), and future (Getting In My Way - a song with very mechanical yet funky, under beat). Unlike Volume 1, there isn't much "World" influence on this album and it is pretty much a straight foward fast moving "Summer-time" disc, not without its melancholy moments, as one would expect from Ian. Here is an updated brief bio on Ian and hs most recent accomplishments:Ian James is a music artist from Lowell MA who writes and records songs in multiple genres but has a predominant focus in ...
