Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Special Edition A historical drama based on a fictional 110-year-old woman whose life and endurance symbolize Black America's struggle for freedom, justice and equality.
Just after the Civil War, a young Jane Pittman fled through dangerous, swampy country to escape the KKK. As a free woman she overcame adversity, oppression and poverty to build a life for herself and her family. Up north, she endured the slaying of her husband at the hands of racist whites. Years later, in her twilight, she took a daring position against an angry mob during the Civil Rights Movement. Throughout her life, Miss Jane Pittman fought with tenacity and courage until she triumphed over social inequity. Nine Emmy awards were given to this masterful production of the fictitious account of life from a 110-year-old slave. The script covers the life of Miss Jane Pittman (Cicely Tyson) from her days as a slave during the the Civil War to the start of the civil rights movement in the 1960's. The scene when she drinks from the "white's only" water fountain due to the Jim Crow laws in the segregated south is one of the most defining moments in the film. Based on the novel by Ernest J. Gaines. Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman Reviews: "Cicely Tyson took just one of the nine Emmys awarded to this TV landmark....It spans the Civil War to the civil rights movement..."

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box office smashes of its time. Introducing the techniques he would employ throughout his storied career--overlapping dialogue, a constantly moving camera with a heavy amount of zooming, and a bold combination of frank subject matter with cynical humor--Altman immediately vaulted himself to Hollywood's ...

$9.44 Don Cheadle gives a riveting performance as Paul Rusesabagina, the manager of a European-owned hotel in Rwanda, who created a secret refugee camp for the Tutsi people during the brutal genocide committed against them by the Hutu people in 1994. His efforts helped to save 1200 lives out of close to a million who were killed. HOTEL RWANDA shows this man's courage, while also capturing the political events that occurred between April and September '94. First, United Nations soldiers are restricted from fighting back against Hutu guerillas, even after the Rwandan president is assassinated and the country is thrown into chaos. But as the fighting worsens, all non-Rwandans including UN peacekeepers, Europeans, and Americans are evacuated. This leaves the Tutsi people defenseless against aggressive Hutus who are armed with machine guns and machetes. While working the system with strategic phone calls to powerful international contacts of the hotel, Rusesabagina also uses smart lies and power plays to hold off the Hutus. The morale among the refugees is low, but because they ...

$24.15 A movie based on a PowerPoint presentation by a former presidential candidate may not sound exciting, but once AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH hits its stride viewers may be surprised how compelling the subject matter proves to be. While many high-ranking political figures continue to argue about global warming, Al Gore has plunged headlong into a serious wake-up call for the planet with a series of lectures about the problem. It's on one of these lectures that this movie from director Davis Guggenheim is based. Guggenheim breaks up Gore's delivery by illustrating his points with film footage, much of which features the former Democratic nominee exploring ...
