(4 Customer Reviews)
With looks reminiscent of a young Paul Newman and a resonant baritone that is equal parts Merle Haggard and George Strait, Blaine Larsen amazed the record industry by scoring a Billboard hit ("How Do You Get That Lonely") that came from an independently released album, and was recorded while the singer was still in high school. On OFF TO JOIN THE WORLD (a spruced up re-packaging of his debut, IN MY HIGH SCHOOL), Larsen reveals surprisingly mature tunes worthy of the aforementioned influences, and co-writes many of the disc's best songs. ("If Merle Would Sing My Song" actually features Haggard on guest vocals.)
Although Larsen's intensely personal songcraft often deals with topics appropriate to his age, the album is imbued with a seriousness that transcends the subject matter. "The Best Man" is a the true story of Larsen's mother's divorce and subsequent re-marriage, while "In My High School" is a slice of life drama full of wisdom that usually takes a lifetime to attain. The record's earnest tone is matched by spare, thoughtful production, characterized by twanging Telecasters and sliding steel guitars in just the right measure.

impressive debut Take Josh Turner, mix him with Buddy Jewell and you’ll get Blaine Larsen. Granted, he has good musicians around him (Eddie Bayers on the drums, Michael Rhodes on bass, Stuart Duncan on the fiddle) and, what’s more, Merle Haggard joining in on “If Merle would sing my song” and Paul Over on “That’s all I’ve got to say about that”. A few ballads, some rhythmic tunes, you won’t need anything else to enjoy listening to it. Besides, he wrote most of the songs. Add to it “I’ve been in Mexico” with a pleasant tempo very in fashion at the moment. Nice lyrics, some unusual stuff (“Off to join the world”). Well, the young man has probably too many people around him and it wouldn’t harm if he came up with something a little more personal. For his style is a bit conventional and, I must admit, I have a liking for singers showing a lot of personality. But time will see to it. And his next album will let us know. Anyway, if you’re looking for something new, Blaine is your man.

$18.99 Casey MacGill Casey MacGill writes and performs music that swings. A classic Hollywood character in appearance and style, MacGill plays boogie-woogie, swing, and stride piano - Fats Waller meets Fats Domino. Casey has developed a signature vocal sound; he has a way with a torch song, and enjoys the adventure of scat singing. MacGill's repertoire covers a range of material from the Gershwins to Leiber & Stoller to those low-down, dirty blues. He blows a lyrical cornet, but his most unique instrumental voice is a 6-string tenor ukulele. Casey grew up in Southern California. As a member of "The Magic Mushroom", he and the band (including jazz singer Marilyn Scott) caravanned up to the legendary Monterey ...

Immediately he began work on his debut solo album The Platinum Punk in which he wrote, performed, and co-produced every song. His hostile yet at times uplifting lyrics, hard hitting beats, and fast aggressive punk rock took you on a ride that only the most open minded could handle. The album was released on April 20th, 2004 on Delusional's homegrown record label Anti-Authority Records to which he is also the president/CEO. It spawned two radio singles titled "Live My Life" and "Gotta Do It" which received college and commercial airplay in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and California. In support of The Platinum Punk album, Delusional embarked on two small-scale tours in 2004: The Outlaw Hooligans tour ...
