| | Fired Up! 2 CD (3 Customer Reviews)
Following in the footsteps of Fired Up!, Fired Up! 2 gathers more club-friendly tracks, opting for well-known artists and songs instead of newer music. Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice," Dirty Vegas' "Days Go By," and Télépopmusik's "Breathe" still sound good, but they're not exactly fresh. Though more current selections would've appealed to those who keep up with pop music, this collection does an adequate job of compiling tried-and-true tracks from Amber, Brian McKnight, Whitney Houston, Ultra Naté, and Daniel Bedingfield. ~ Heather Phares The FIRED UP! series lies somewhere between the pop universe of the NOW compilations and the energetic mixes put together by Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, and their DJ peers. Instead of opting for underground club hits like the latter, the FIRED UP! collections feature an assortment of high-energy songs and remixes of pop hits, combining them in a glossy, lively mix. FIRED UP! 2 opens brightly with a track that wound its way from clubs to massive radio play, DJ Sammy's cover of Bryan Adams's "Heaven," which gently glides into Dirty Vegas's ultra-catchy Euro-pop number "Days Go By." After that, FIRED UP!'s second installment proceeds to venture into pop territory with Kelly Clarkson and Whitney Houston, before returning to techno-oriented tracks from Amber and Lara Fabian. That's not the end of the chance-taking, though--after two superlative dance-crossover tunes (Telepopmusik's "Breathe" and Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice"), the collection offers up clever mixes of songs by R&B crooner Brian McKnight and adult-alternative superstar Sarah McLachlan. Overall, FIRED UP! 2 boasts an uplifting sound that should appeal to fans of pop and dance alike.

| | Ferron Boulder CD (2008)
Fired Up! 2
$12.89 âBoulderâ is Ferronâs fourteenth release in a recording career that spans thirty-one years.âBoulderâ is intimate and sparsely arranged, and calls on pals like Ani diFranco, Samantha Parton (Be Good Tanyas), The Indigo Girls, Jd Samson (Le Tigre), Lyndell Montgomery (Ember Swift band), Tina G (God-des and She), Ulali and Julie Wolfâall avid Ferron fansâto contribute. On âBoulder,â we hear the voice of a legendâthe story of an elder. Bitch's production not only captures the essence of Ferron's songs, but challenges the youth to do what youth is rarely encouraged to do: tune in to the ones who have come before us, hear their wisdom and grow from it.âBoulderâ was produced by Bitch, mixed by Tucker Martine (Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Bill Frisell) and mastered by Jon Cohrs (Laurie Anderson, Pink Martini, Quasi). âBoulder,â will be released on Bitchâs own record label, Short Story Records. The record will be available at shows starting May 1 and in stores this June. May 8th is the official cd release show and will be held in NYC at the Highline Ballroom.Part Cree and Ojibway Indian, Ferron grew up in the Vancouver area in British Columbia, Canada. The eldest of seven children, she was tossed between foster homes, her mother and an abusive stepfather. At 15, she ran away and never looked back. She describes leaving home with only a shopping bag of stuff: âI was 15. In my shopping bag I had a change of clothes, a toothbrush, my A&W uniform, and a Leonard Cohen album. No record player. I couldnât go to the Catholic Church (Iâd already been banned for using the word âbraâ in the youth group), so I went to the house of an older woman that I worked at the factory with. She said I could stay in her basement. I turned the workbench into a bed, painted everything turquoise and white and was on my way deep into my independent life.â Ferron would go on to become one of Canadaâs most famous folk singers.âBoulderâ will be her latest release, and is a collection of songs that speak the voice of a well-traveled folk hero. It illuminates what we know and love about Ferronâher words, and the weight with which she can help us see the world. While the album is comprised of mostly her own songs, Ferron steps into new territory by covering one of Bitch's songs.A musical poet and songwriter herself, Bitch fell in love with Ferron when the two met at a festival a few years ago. They forged an instant friendship and connection when Ferron randomly invited Bitch on stage to play ...
