William Katt stars as mild-mannered high school teacher Ralph Hinkley whose close encounter with aliens leaves him with a super-power suit that only he can control. Created by well-known TV executive Stephen J. Cannell (HUNTER, THE A-TEAM, 21 JUMP ST.), THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO was an acclaimed show that was cancelled before its time. ABC seemed unsure how to market the show's blend of superhero action with comedy, which seems prescient in regards to later superhero satires like MYSTERY MEN and THE INCREDIBLES. Ralph Hinkley is a normal high school teacher who has a close encounter of the third kind, and is rewarded with a super-powered pajama suit. The problem is, he doesn't quite know how to work the thing. Gung-ho FBI agent Bill Maxwell knows Ralph's secret, and with his connections and the help of girlfriend Pam, Ralph travels around the world to save the day. The unfairly cancelled spoof can now be re-appreciated after years as a cult curiosity. Greatest American Hero - Season 1 Reviews: "GAH tweaks the superhero genre with an ironic wink but stops just shy of kitsch; there are actually genuine moments of dramatic tension..."

The Greatest American Hero was the Greatest!!! It was really enjoyable to travel back in time 20 years to watch one of TV's best Superhero shows and a show that never failed to leave you with a smile. Can hardly wait for the next season. Better Than I Remembered I just bought Season One on DVD. Was a bit hesitant, because though I remembered enjoying it when it was on TV years ago, I figured in the 21st century it'd be a bit dated and far-fetched.However,I've enjoyed Season One well enough that the next two seasons are now on my shopping list for sure.
Some things take some suspension of belief....a guy with super powers loses the instruction book for the magic superpower suit....okay,he knows where he's been,so why not fly there and get the instruction book? Or if it's been found by someone, however unlikely, then hone in on where the book is now. I think they could have made it just as much fun with him always trying things according to the instructions.
But it is a fun series. Submitted by wardgreene (Brisbane,Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Greatest Show of the 80s! Fun show with excellent cast! Culp and Katt really made the show great. It had a little of everything...Humor, Action, and Romance.
The only thing disappointing about the DVD set is that due to music rights, many of the songs that were on the show orginally were excluded. Submitted by El (Virginia, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$32.59 With a crack of her gold whip and a shimmy into her snug superhero suit, Lynda Carter perfectly embodied the tough, sassy spirit of WONDER WOMAN in this televisual adaptation. The male-dominated genre got a feminist jolt when Wonder Woman first appeared on screens in 1976, with Carter taking on all manner of evildoers in her attempts to ensure that justice prevails. By day she is a Peter Parker-style worker; clad in glasses and unassuming business ...

$20.65 Representing the point at which American television reached a level of mature artistry, MOONLIGHTING took the medium to new heights of sophistication while maintaining a sense of lighthearted fun. Fusing the drama and comedy genres while offering convoluted plotlines filled with "serious" situations and cultural references, the show delivered laughs according to the tropes of more straightforward sitcoms.
