Powerful jazz fusion and Latin acoustic guitarist Al DiMeola started in the influential fusion band "Return to Forever" with keyboardist Chick Corea in 1974, then went solo, recording with various musicians such as John McLaughlin, Paul Simon, and Dave Matthews before more or less leaving fusion to concentrate on acoustic work. This live concert, captured in Germany on May 17, 2004, features 17 songs, including "Orient Blue," "This Way Before," "Beyond the Mirage," "Fugatta," "Innamorta," "Rhapsody of Fire," "One Night Last June," "Libertango," "Egyptian Danza," "Azzurra," and "Misterio."

I will try to put my personal feelings about the guitar player aside so I can say with as little bias as possible that this combination of players, playing Al's A.P.influenced music came off very well. The DVD is sharp, and the sound is great (I don't have the new kinds of sound equipment to discuss anything beyond sterio, because I'm not interested in 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1--guess I'm to old to warm up to it).
It's really a shame that he has the kind of personality that undemines so much of his talant. It's really funny to watch the "extras" on this DVD. It gives the buyer a snippet of why he has, with a few exceptions, different people touring with him almost every outing. In all seriousness, it's really not funny. But, if you like this guitar player--which I do, in spite of rather than becouse of--you will like what you see and hear on this qigh quality DVD. It would be 5 stars, but not enough is new here, it's good Al D music--but so is a lot of other recordings you most likely already have.

How can some consider the audio and video quality of this DVD as superb and another as poor/jumpy. I adore Al but am not sure whether to put my money on this disc

and really deserves better than this.
do yourself a favor - pass on this one.

Great, Audio & Video.......perfect.....Still best guitarist in the world!!!!!!! Strings give his music lots of depth!!!!!!!!Percussionist completment His guitar style......Perfect addition to your collection of Guitar Giants........

Wizardry
I have been following Al since Return to Forever and I have seen him live with Paco and John. I was elated to know that Al finally came out with a DVD. I have asked other people to go with me to his concerts and they usually say "who is that?". Now that I have the evidence they say "How in the hell does he do that?" If you are looking for a concert with pyro and all the bells and whistles; forget it. This is not Van Halen. I just laugh when people say things like "Nobody can play like Satriani or Vai". You know that these guys only wish they had the half the talent of Al Dimeola. This DVD highlights just a few of Al's accomplishments. The audio and video are superb. Al's freakish mastery of the guitar (acoustic/electric in this case) is amazing. The small German town (where it was recorded) was treated to some awesome talent. I just hope he keeps on cranking out more DVDs. If you could not see him live and want to, this is your chance. Don't blow it!!!
